Crap another oil thread
« on: April 23, 2021, 08:25:46 PM »
I'd never heard of Shell X-100 Classic Motor Oil. I did a search on WG and didn't find anything, so it doesn't look as though I'm re-hashing something.

Here's some info on the stuff:

https://www.prweb.com/releases/2016/03/prweb13252278.htm

A friend told me that it was available on Woot, which is affiliated w Amazon. There's no search function for Woot. The poor Amazon reviews are because of packaging. I ordered a jug, got it today, and it was well packed.

I just bought two jugs of 20/50 yesterday for my oilheads or I would probably give this a try. Same price as the store brand stuff I just bought. Is that really a metal can?  I can’t remember the last time I bought a can of oil.

Yup, a metal can. Haven't seen one of those in ages.

Sounds OK. I'll stick with Valvoline  racing VR1. Has high zinc levels.

Nice Novelty!  I seem to remember that.

I use Brad Penn in my flat tappet motors, and occasionally Valvoline VR1.

The gas station I used to work at has some X-100 from at least the 80s. It's sealed so it must still be good, right?

Not unusual for me as aviation engine and hydraulic oils have always come in cans and still do. Either 1qt or 1 US gallon in the main.

The eventual left turn......  I like olive oil on a salad but peanut is better for deep frying.   :boozing:

Are you sure it's not AreoShell?  Had a customer use this in his Duck Desmo.

Aerosols is not a good idea. It is non-detergent.  Edit: AeroShell! Darn self correct.

 It states very clearly on the can ;

                                                                        classic car motor oil

It might be low detergent , probably not NO detergent

Agreed that peanut oil is best for deep frying. Definitely makes the best French fries!
