mild head work advise
« on: December 08, 2023, 01:35:24 PM »
I would like to have the heads on my G5 massaged a bit. I'd like to open up and flowed for 36mm carbs, valves and guides etc. I haven't had a need for this kind of work since Manfred Hect of Raceco fame passed. Any recommendations? Thanks,
Steve

I know Ace Malott has a flow bench and does head work. MGNOC past MO rep.

Any engine mods? if not you could just blend the intake port to the manifold with a dremel.

Ace did the heads on Dad’s 1100 guzzi and it runs well.

here is the job my buddy Tom Hull did on my 850T heads. Thinner copper head gaskets were used.

Thanks Turin. So, I assume you stayed with the small valves? What size carbs did you use, 36's? Years ago I met Tom, very briefly. Some time in the late 80's my wife and I did a fly and ride to Buy a Cal II from Dave. We had a great experience and ended up going back a couple more times. It was the same weekend in May as the Arizona MGNOC rally which used to be the kick-off rally of the year.

Cool! Dave is the one who turned me onto Guzzi's when I was in high school! The Best! They sold the shop in 1997. I bought Dave's old race bike in peices.
I'm at Tom's house about once a week.

here is a video of a joyride with Tom.

He ported the heads himself and we installed stock sized stainless steel valves. It runs a Norris S / megacycle X9 cam and 36mm delortos. Mistral exhaust with conti rep mufflers. Compression was bumped / squish set at .040 with thinner copper head and base gaskets.

The T it pulls harder down low than my lemans 3.
