Daylight saving finished yesterday.

I HATE it when it gets dark so early in the evening.  Also confirmation that winter is nigh upon us.   :clock: is running out to do  :bike-037:.

Went to the local Honda shop to get some new tires mounted on the G-5 wheels. Went into the showroom to look for a large scooter. Salesman says "Nobody buys 'em, so we don't stock 'em."  He kept trying to interest me in an Indian Scout sitting there. It felt very unsubstantial. Seat too narrow, footpegs too high. "Oh we can get those adjusted for you, no biggie."  Reminded me of going into an old tailor shop in the city. Trying to sell me an ill fitting suit when I asked for a sweatshirt.....

Went out on the Triumph yesterday. Charged the battery, pulled the plugs, kicked it over half a dozen times to get oil flowing, put the plugs back, tickled the carb and it fired on the first kick.

This thing takes forever (about three stuttery miles) to warm up enough to accept throttle under 3500 rpm. Then it's sweeeet. Wish it had a choke.

All three bikes are running well and now we have a four-day winter storm rolling thru. And I'm about to put the crank back in the crankcase for the 850T.

Had a great 300mile trip up to paradise at the top of our South Island. Bike never missed a beat and the second hand box I put in seems to do the bizzo.

It's a great trip up with plenty of corners Nd nice scenery. Our extended family still have a 4th generation holiday place here at a beach; very therapeutic sitting on the deck listening to the waves whilst sipping ming julips, or whatever rips ya shorts. :thumb:

Spent Wednesday 4/24 reminiscing about my Dad.

My Dad, the Gentle Warrior.  WWII, Korea and Vietnam never lost his sense of compassion, or humor.
He would have been ninety today.

and my brother on the fifth anniversary of his death.

Tom at the helm, large and in charge and wickedly funny.

Miss both madly.

Not so good. Went to have recent medical imagery reviewed by my orthopedic surgeon. The tumor below my knee has grown, displacing bone as it expands (slowly).  Danger of fracture. I'm being referred to a bone cyst specialist for biopsy, etc, to determine possible malignancy. Hoping this does not interfere with my planned retirement next month. At any rate, my riding will need to be greatly limited or ended altogether. If I need surgery, I'll be grounded. Until I find out how brittle the bone is, I'm essentially limited to 3 wheels. The leg hurts bad enough, more than 25 miles in a riding position is tough on any of my bikes. I been battling this since '93, but I guess age and time take their toll.
Still planning on coming to CV, not sure how mobile I will be.

Working hard to day, cleaning up old equipment and getting it ready for auction next weekend.

Some things that I've had for 35 years, and thought there was a chance I would use, OR stuff that has just gotten out of date, I'm getting rid of as part of the De-Cluttering process that Fay and I are both doing in this year we turn 65.

There are things that I've realized I'm never going to do, either because I can't or I lost interest.   A set of Farmall Cub equipment, New Holland side-bar mower, a 6 foot bush-hog, a pull disc, a couple of tillers are getting WD-40'ed, greased up, and ready to haul.   Already sold the Ferguson 50, Ferguson 35, and Farmall Cub.  Down to one new tractor and one set of useful equipment.

Hard work horsing this stuff around.   But Fay's helping and we'll be tired but happy at the end of the day ....

Did the 300 mile ride back from the bach yesterday.  Good conditions, not as much traffic on the road and the bike never missed a beat yet again.

I am seeing more motorbike tours on the road. There never used to be any; this time I passed three parked at various stopping places, and far enough apart to say they were separate tours.  Most seem to be on BMWs.  Overtook one lot on the way up, that lot were on the air cooled saggy jugs model.  Yesterdays ones were all on the adventure style bikes, might bode well for the V85TT as that style becomes more popular.

Excellent thanks Dusty. I got the Panther back together and running after some crankcase thread replacement surgery.  Better yet learned that the bottom end of my 72 Eldo shows no measurable wear after 100,000 miles. New Gilardonis and a new oil pump and she'll start her second lap of the clock.

My first real ride of the season -- a 200 mile round trip just to get a hearing aid repaired. I use hearing protection on the bike, then take off the helmet and plug in the hearing aids. Too many big (Lycoming) air cooled engines in my past.

Took the Mille and popped over McClure pass. Wildlife on the road includes deer and -- geese!  Every roadside pond had Canada geese loitering on the shoulder, not a bit fazed by the infrequent traffic. They're nesting and laying. Gonna be gaggles soon.

Even riding conservatively it's impossible not to pass traffic both uphill and down. I do love this motorcycle.

I understand completely Seth.  On my way back I had combined Easter and Anzac day traffic to contend with, along with the usual motorhomes.  I would have been so frustrated in a vehicle, but even the Breva with it's modest 48hp, with a quick downshift, flattened all before it.  Faceache material every time. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
