Ivan, my Eastern European guzzi nut friend built up a rusted 850t into a chopper like that...won the people's choice award one year at IMOC...can't find the foto anymore but it was surprisingly well done
I think he did it just to piss off the purists...it was great to see those offended, those laughing, and those that were impressed. It certainly made you one or the other. He took a lot of heat for it.
The straight thru pipes silenced the audience......

No, no... :D
This is a good post.
No element of disgust here. This is just good fun.
We all need an honest laugh after a hard week's work.
[And then we ride! It's all good people...]

I think you have the correct take on this one..

Lots of folks outside the US used non-Harley's for choppers because that is what was available. I'm guessing that that R60/2 (or maybe an R50/2) was involved in a front end crash...

I don't like choppers, but at least it's more interesting than the typical trash.

I think if they reshape the cylinders & heads to have a leading edge, it will fly

I think it's great. Back in the far past, folks chopped everything. No motorcycle was safe. I remember being asked more than twice if I had a motorcycle, when I replied yes, the next question was,"Is it a chopper?" Still have my first, '68 Bonneville with a rigid frame and 800CC flat tracker motor.

Years ago Paul Montgomery who worked at Pro Italia in Glendale, CA had a very nicely done Moto Guzzi chopper. No idea if he's still at Pro Italia or if he still has that bike. But it was really nice IMHO.
Last year at the Chattanooga Car & Bike show there was another Moto Guzzi custom semi chopper. It was, in a word, stunning. I think I looked at it and talked to the builder for over 30 minutes. Every time I looked at it I saw something else custom and crafted beautifully. Yea, he said he heard a lot of pushback from Moto Guzzi people. Nearly everyone else, motorcycle person or not, loved it.
Add ape hangers and an extended Sugar Bear springer front end to the 'correct' picture of the white BMW posted by JJ and you'd really get people in an uproar. I love custom bikes, whether or not I'd ever want it is irrelevant to me.

I love choppers. Love them. The more "homebuilt", the better.
What says "motorcycles" more than someone buying a ratty old bike, getting it running, and making it into something unique? They're not all to my liking, but they're also not my bike.
Nah, I'm all over it. Love it. As long as they get ridden, I have nothing bad to say about any of them.

This, 100%.

While I no intention of ever owning a chopper I do appreciate a well crafted one. Show me you care and I'll pay attention. Grunge / rat bikes bother me though...

For me Choppers have a place. if well executed they can actually handle quite well for a chopper meaning that they are safe enough to ride on the road and go around curves.
One of my favorite bikes was my '85 Honda Shadow 700. After the jeep took me out while sitting at a stop sign it was 20 years before I bought another cruiser style bike because of the cherished memory of that bike.

It was definitely chopper inspired.

I used to have an '86 just like yours in the early 90's, but in candy apple red. Really loved that bike. Only had it for about a year, then sold it and didn't have a bike for about 10 years after that.

I had an '83 VT750. Bought it for $700.00. Learned to wrench on that thing, but it had an electrical gremlin I could never find. That bike was cruiser like in handling, but not in performance. It could haul.

There was a guy that used show up at various British meets with the rattiest Triumph chopper ever. Sissy bar made of galvanized pipe fittings, forward controls that looked like a blacksmith made 'em, you get the picture. Had a sign on the sissy bar that said,"If you bought it in a store, it ain't custom."

The Mad Max - Fury Road movie from 2015 had a decent looking chopper style airhead BMW.
