Wider handlebars for my EV
« on: January 27, 2023, 12:45:02 PM »
Hello Folks, I am looking for a bit wider bars from stock for my 98 EV that I put a sidecar on. Looking for some that I can fit without getting longer cables, etc.  I had heard in the past that Bassa bars may work. Any suggestions?
Thanks
Rick D.

I’ve got a set of stock 02 Stone bars however I have no idea of comparison size.
You also want to put this in the Swap Meet for viewing.

Does the Bassa handlebar have end pieces that are removable? I found a bar on ebay, but it states "end missing"  on the throttle side there are about 4" of bar missing, and there is a inner sleeve. Wierd! Is that the way Bassa bars come oem?

Original  Bassa bars are like a wheelbarrow handle, I don’t think you will like that. They point towards the back not to the side like normal bars. The Stone bars or Jackal bars are what you want.

I see what you mean, Fotoguzzi. I think I will look for some stone or Jackal bars. I also am not a fan of "wheelbarrow" type bars. Thanks for the heads up.

I've heard of adding loopframe civilian bars. I think I'd like the feel better but I don't want to deal with cable lengths.

BBR, I believe you’re on the right track with the Stone handle bars. My 03 EV had bars that I could only describe as Ram like, looked good but sucked and made me cramp up between the shoulders.  One year later When we purchased my wife’s 04 Touring Stone the difference was such an improvement I got a set for my EV, great change. I think I got them from MG Cycle in Wisc. Good luck in your search.

One thing to keep in mind. The Stone bars are going to be the big, I think 30mm dia. The Jackal I belive had the normal 7/8th dia bars like your older EV. It can be made to work, but something to keep in mind.

IIRC, when I changed the bars on my EV I got Emgo Superbike bars and they were just right.

20 years ago I got a set of super bike bars. At the time they had two different widths. I then got a set of bar back risers. Love the set up it feels like my 1992 Harley Electra glide classic.
Rox risers has a set of I think 4" and six inch fully adjustable along with shorter ones. Cables were plenty long enough.

I put a set of chinese knockoff "Rox Risers" on my Ural rig, and they are very nice as far as adjusting the ergos. Good idea Steve!
