Lemans III vs Lemans 1000 frame question.
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:52:50 PM »
I'm attempting to order a set of Hagon Nitro shocks for my project. Dave Quinn has them listed for lemans 1-3, but not for the lemans 1000. says they won't fit. My guess is that the stock bodywork would interfere with the fatter shock and that's why there is no listing.
Anyone have a different theory?

the IV's rear frame is angled up so i would guess thay have longer shocks.

850 III and Le Mans 1000 use the same shock length.

Also May Have To Do With Swingarm Length. If The III And IV Have The Same Length I Cant see Why They Wouldnt Be The Same?

What Nolan says. III and IV same length. While they do have different swingarm tubing diameters, they are the same length. The swoops of the IV frame are behind the shock mounts.

Doesn't look like a problem unless the shocks are extremely fat right at the top eye.

Something wistful and amusing, yet poignant.

Diameter of the top of the shock is 3". Might that be too fat for the bodywork ?  I'm ordering them.

Shock length wasn't a concern. I'm running the longer 13.25" Ikons on my 850 T (short swing arm) , and shorter than stock shocks on my ambo.

Glad you got your answer.  Otherwise, I'd have to go into the garage with calipers, tape measure, protractor and pen with pad for your answer.

The difference is in the shock mount widths between the two frames. The 1000 has the wider swingarm and to make the shock mounts line up top and bottom, Guzzi used shouldered upper mounts to move them out. The 850 still had the narrow swingarm and upper shock mounts.
I just went through all this when I used an early swingarm on my LeMans IV frame. I would think the shocks themselves would interchange.
