Tuff Shed - Thoughts? Suggestions?
« on: September 22, 2017, 08:28:16 PM »
Since my wife has her two fiats, I've got my car and a company car, I need more room. I'm thinking about a structure to sit on the side of my house since a 50' x 15' concrete slab was poured there before I bought the place. Tuff sheds seem kinda pricey. Anyone suggest an alternative? I'm thinking I need at least 160 Square feet.

The neighbors would have a fit and so would the wife.

Also, I like to hang out by the bikes. I need room for a chair.

One of my sons and I just built a 12x16 barn/shed. It was a fun project, and it holds a lot of stuff!

It turned out nicer than the sheds you can buy at Home Depot and Lowe’s (though it was not really any cheaper).

When I was looking for a shed to stall my sidecar rig, I came up on this site.

Steel, secure and a little over 185 square feet
I don't suppose you will be buying in Belgium ;-) but I assume you can obtain similar in the Us?
(btw, you can switch country and language at the left above)
If you're not afraid of theft, you can also consider a carport and chain you bike(s) to the concrete floor?

Years ago father-in-law built his own shop.  He did all the framework and erected it.  The tough part was the roof so he bought the assembled roof trusses and had them lifted onto the framing.  Then he finished the roof plywood/shingles and then the siding.  He was in his early 50's when he did that.  Not sure I would want to tackle such a job now, especially in your part of AZ heat.

PS By the time he was done not sure it was any less expensive than the other alternatives.

We just bought this   from a local place Backyard Outfitters, it's  their photo  12 wide 24  long 7 foot high door, steel roof, framed like a real garage. Heavy duty pressure treated plywood floor strong enough to support a car...We use if for the tractor garden equipment... It was $4800 delivered and installed on our prepped crushed stone site....We are in a rural area with plenty of room...Most towns will require a permit for sheds larger than 144 square ft floor space..Suburban town may have issues portable buildings this large

If you built a 15X16 shed (less waste material) with one door and one window and depending on how you want it clad, I'd guess the material at anywhere from $600-$1000. Building it shouldn't take that long, but if time is an issue this out of the question. Two guys can frame and clad it in a day and a simple roof about half a day. Plenty of video's out there for the DIY's. If you have no tools and you have never done this kind of work before and you really would like to keep your fingers attached to your hand, then I wouldn't entertain this project.

I recently built a 4 x 8 x 8 foot high chicken coop with a shed style roof...Pressure treated plywood floor, standard building plywood sheeting on walls and roof, 2x4 framing on 2 foot centers, shingled roof. Home made door and windows, nothing fancy...It was just over 500 bucks for materials at Lowe's with not much waste...I believe the portable garage I bought above would cost $2500 for materials...

Plenty of places in the US offer these kinds of shelters, Northern Tool among others. The web is your friend.
My blacksmith friends in Arizona have built their shops with a steel roof and chain-link fencing walls, but you might want protection from dust storms.
Check zoning rules regarding permits, size limits, etc.
