EZ questions for new guy please
« on: July 03, 2022, 02:44:37 PM »
Hi, couple hopefully easy questions to help with my background knowledge please,

Tonti and loop are (early?) frame names/designs?  Would one of these then apply to a modern bike like a V-7 2021?  Easy to tell them apart?

When did chrome plating cyl. bores roughly start and stop?   Is a  1985 T5  is this also called a LeMans? or are those names exclusive to years & models?

I know in the beemer world several good sources of used parts of all ages, changing out a M.G. 16 inch front wheel to a 17 maybe 18, is there a good source for used parts?  Either UK or Stateside all good.

If you took some of your time to answer, Ive seen and appreciated!    Thanks,Tim

Get a copy of Greg Fields "Moto Guzzi Big Twins" and Dave Richardsons "Guzziology".

What you have is a small block frame, also designed by Lino Tonti.

The original Ambassador and Eldorado are examples of the loop frame.

The original V7 Sport and Le Mans are examples of the classic Tonti frame.

The frame on the small block bikes like the modern V7s and V9s were also designed by Tonti, but did not gain the famous moniker. Consider them the “small block frame” but feel free to pull out the “actually” card when someone starts talking about Tonti frames

Chrome plated bores: roughly '67-'79 but not all models, some models got iron liners. The 850 T5 was an evolution of the "standard" styled 850-T, 850-T3, and T4. The Le Mans was a completely different model.
