Veglia Speedo reset knob question
« on: June 24, 2022, 08:53:21 PM »
My 94 cali 1100 is missing the trip reset knob.  What does it look like in there? I can’t see very well. Is it a tongue and groove kinda arraignment or male threads? Can I make a reset device myself? I tried to look up parts for it but looks like knob is discontinued any ideas?

I don’t know.  It’s missing from my speedo. All I have is a hole in the chrome bezel.  I’d love to be able to reset my trip meter to know when to get gas

I always run mine out of gas and then back up a few miles.

It's threaded resetting it tightens the thread and turning it backwards will unscrew the knob. Now I just have to thin about which way you actually turn it when resetting it, I think its a conventional RH thread.

More than likely it broke at the threads

MGCycle used to carry them but at this time out of stock.

I would suggest you get familiar with your bike and download or purchase a parts manual

Look in the hold and make sure you have a threaded "male" shaft to where the reset knob would thread.  I have seen these snap off before !

Whether the thread is Left or Right hand threaded depends on which side of the speedo the knob is on. If the male part is broken off, a dab of glue on the knob and patience will get the trip set working again. You won't be able to get the bucket off the speedo afterwards, of course.

Thanks for all the help. I’ll find a kid with good eyes to look in there and see if there are threads!

I may have a few different types of these in my stash. Let me know if you have threads in there and I will look to see what I have.

Thank you! I emailed MG and they do have it. 10.00.  I just need to be able to see in there and see threads.  Where’s a child with good eyes? Lol.

Anyone ever try a lamp socket knob with longer stem? Common at hardware shops in the lamp repair section!
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.

I've lost two of them.  Reverse thread.  I'm too cheap to buy another for $20.  Contact Joel Levine speedometer repair and he'll send you one for $20.

Reverse thread if it comes out the left side, IIRC. RH thread if on the right side.

It “looks” like the male shaft is in there.  I read somewhere that a dremel cut off wheel female arbor would work. It doesn’t.  Ccoil pm sent to check your stash.  Thanks all!

Update ccoil sent me a knob and it worked great. Thanks all!

Slightly related, see my tri-light lamp control twist-knob on my 850T5. Long story, re the throttle cable(s) terminal into the throttle... which had to be re-designed. Said twist-knob stiffens the throttle (poor man's cruise control). It is NOT the throttle return limit knurled-head screw which is smaller dia.
