Alright you car guys , just heard on the radio that Jaguar is going to finish the production run from 1957 . Apparently 5 were built and there was a fire that stopped production of the remaining 20 that were planned . Can anyone give some more details ? May have to start playing the lottery , the price tag will probably be in the 7 figure range  Damn those were beautiful cars

sorta like Carrol Shelby "finding" all those 1965 Cobra VINS to finish a bunch of continuation Cobras.  VIN tags are sorta like printing your own money.

But the fire is true.  the Jag plant did burn up a lot of D-type/SS equipment.  I am sure the fire was accidental.

I figured you'd price the tickets at $140,000 each, sell 20 and keep one for yourself. I bet John would buy ten tickets.

I can tell you from experience that someone wanting that kind of performance but without the required financial backing might consider one of the smallblock Ford powered Griffiths.

I was behind a new jag on the freeway today.  I think he was doing 25 much faster than my humble Grand Cherokee.       :cheesy:

Can you imagine the import nightmare when a NEW 1957 jag rolls head-on into 2016 DOT/EPA/ETC?  If it's a new factory build is it a 1957?  If it's a 2016 is there any way it can be made street legal?  If it was modified for modern rules, would it be an xjss? The mind boggles after a bowl or two.

I doubt very much that any of these things will "hit the street".  You might spy one toodling through the California canyons briefly on the way to some hedonistic retreat of another .0001% er.  This is the unfortunate truth of virtually all collector cars- they are about as accessible as a privately owned Van Gogh painting.

This is a little different from Carroll Shelby "finding" spare VINs to make hew Cobras.

For one, Jaguar is a legitimate auto manufacturer with a keen eye on its  heritage, not to mention enough marketing savvy to recognize a cost-effective way to generate plenty of publicity throughout the enthusiast press and among dyed-in-the-wool car nuts.

Shelby, on the other hand, was an opportunist car-maker of a sort who recognized an opportunity to squeeze a few more dollars out of an old myth by over-promising and under delivering on a sketchy claim of "lost VINs" and long-stored AC chassis.

In fact, Jaguar has played this tune before:

All these "continuation' cars are enabled by some buried language in the most recent U.S. transportation funding bill that allows the sale of "continuation" cars that do not comply with current safety standards and CARB standards. They do have to be based on an old design, meet EPA emissions standards for the engine year, and be built by the original manufacturer or a licensee, and in very limited numbers. Ford has chosen to license the building of some 60s Mustangs and GM some 60s Vette's, while Jaguar has chosen to build the continuation cars themselves.

This looks to be a very profitable cottage industry- whole body shells are already available for the Mustangs for around $15-20k along with crate engines. Just assemble and there'll be a whole line of 60 something fools with "creative recall" of what a 60s Mustang were really like to drive and these fools have six and seven figure net worths to buy them.

Morgans are in the category of low number recreations that can be brought in without current FED DOT standards on them.

The XKSS is/was a beautiful Jag. Smooth styling for the fifties. At $1.4Mil each that is a very reasonable price. Doesn't sound it, but if one ever hits the secondary market the price will jump. All will be right hand drive. I have read that all have been presold. A truly awesome car. Steve McQueen owned one, sold it, and bought it back from the man he sold it to for a lot more money he liked it so much.

Ducati Singapore is under a new dealership that owns a few luxury car brands and shares the showroom floor too.

When I visited my mate who work in Ducati last month, I stumbled across this

If Guzzi can copy the idea, come out with a story about 'The Missing 50 Telaio Rosso' and 'The Missing 100 Lemans 850' and reproduce them according to the old engineering drawings with a period correct chassis and engine number, that will be great
