Stelvio crossed my mind until I checked out weight and seat height.

I am starting to ponder the light touring bike.  Best so far:  BMW F 800 GT...

Good luck!

The only time I notice the weight is when I'm moving it around in my tiny garage..  The Bill Mayer seat I have on it is a tad lower than stock..
This bike would serve a more adventurous rider better.   Since we ride 2up all the time, we'll be heading more towards sport tourer again.

Thanks!

There were two or three of these at this past Saturday's Northern Illinois Monthly Guzzi breakfast in DeKalb.  They do look right-sized for us older codgers and I think they are reasonably priced (given that they have Roundels).  Don't know much about them, but they look good.

Best,

You might be right Paul!

We have a test ride lined up on an aprilia Caponord 1200 this weekend.  That'll show us if it is as comfortable as the Stelvio..  If not impressed,  I'm sure we won't mind putting another 15,000 miles on the NTX this season..

The Stelvio IS very kind to our 50 year old knees!

I've owned and ridden a Sports Touring bike (Concours C-14) and much prefer the more upright seating position of the AdvTourer type of bikes.  The ST bikes put too much weight on my hands/fore arms/wrists/neck muscles (even with bar risers) for me to be comfortable for long distances.  Plus, the longer travel suspensions on the AdvTourer bikes make it a lot easier on the back and hips, particularly when I'm on the road and heavily loaded.

Ride safe.

I always knew I'd get old.  How fast it happened was a bit of a surprise, though.

Yep, when I grow up, I'll get one.  ;D Unfortunately, it seems that I've quit growing, though. I loved the Quota on a trip, but like when I was a kid on a horse, I had to park next to a fence so I could climb on..

Those bags look good on that bike. The Stelvio is one of those bikes like the Futura I had, 5 years after I sold I wished I would have kept it.

Those bags were required when Karen voiced her opposition to the Trax BOX look.   They fit right onto the OEM box racks with some "bobbin" moves to different holes.

They cool in the sense that you can open the top corner as well as the whole bag.   Nice to be able to just grab a bottle of water or snack out of the top corner instead of opening the whole deal and having to stuff things back in the bag..

You had a Futura??   We still have ours.  it has around 64,000 miles so far...and more to be added.

The Capo sure is a nice ride but darn it looks like it came out of a shop where someone was left alone with a dark room with a welder and a rack full of parts. There isn't a clean line on the thing. It does have plenty of electronics though and a seriously strong engine.

Get your ladder.

LD, I have a '13 F800GT. Terrific bike, great mpg (70+), plenty fast and loads of fun to ride, but don't confuse it as a "touring bike" just because it has bags and a fairing, or you could be disappointed. Buzzy at speed, only 90 hp (not great for 2-up), budget suspension, minimal wind protection, too light in strong crosswinds.

richy,

I borrowed trax sidecases for a long weekend, and my wife hates them. Because she has little place to move her feet on the steps, and on distance it's nice to be able to move. And other thing, climbing on the bike is hard too.  Are these points betetr with these cases?

Paul,

Karen loves the e41 GIVI bags..   They have a 41 liter capacity per side,  so they hold quite a bit.  (I think the Trax boxes are 37liters)   We've done 4 day trips and had room left over in them.
They're designed with a rounder profile.  They're also rounded on the surface that faces the pillion.  Karen hasn't mentioned any comfort issues with them or any issues with the GIVI's interfering with her getting on the bike..  And we really like the fact that you can open just the top corner as well.  It has a little combination lock on that door.

Yup I had a 2004, if I remember correctly they called it Ash (the color). Put 28,000 on it and sold it. Then about 4 years later I found a red one on Ebay and bought it and kept it for a year. Just too bent over of a riding position for long days. Best engine (Rotax) and brake combo of any bike I have ever owned, and the only bike I have ever owned that I did not have to put an aftermarket seat on. It was a great seat right from the factory. Having AF1 racing in your backyard helped too.

I know what you mean. I have this feeling, not a Capo but close to something else.

I'm +1 with long ranger on the f800gt. Great bike, great handling, very smooth. But much more sport than touring on the ST spectrum; minimal weather protection, forward leaning riding position. Mine has the comfort seat but my but can't stand more than a couple of hours. Love the bike but if I'm going any distance or the weather is bad I usually take the NT700V

If you are pondering the little beemer do yourself a favor and ride it for a bit.  I could not stand to be on it for more than 30min.

I did love the engine and transmission.  Really buzzy handlebars and the radiator fan blew directly on my legs (it was bad enough that I think it was something the dealer did, like not installing or replacing a baffle someplace).

The NT700 was nice too.  I just like the Goose better.
