Don’t know about y’all, but I’ve been mildly critical of the V85 in some aspects of it’s fuelling.
Compared to the flexible liquid nature of my Norge, the V85 is a little bit “choppy” and raw. Not bad by any means and I’m happy enough with it.
I have formed the opinion though, that rain mode rounds off the sharp edges in the delivery down around 3,000 rpm and it feels slightly less RBW (which is a feature I detest). I don’t perceive any significant drop in passing power that bothers me unduly.

It also deletes some ignition, not just fuel. It detunes your engine for less power. I detest anything that does what that switch does, I also believe this is where most of the mapping weirdness originates. I would leave all that crap OFF
It's mostly for car drivers that want to ride mcy's but don't or can't do it well.

Me too.
It’s on there and you have to select one of the three and I agree with your assertions. But I must reiterate, that I don’t notice any real world reduction in performance that’s at all invasive.

My older son, who has not ridden for a long time, just got his V85. When I set it up for him, I put it in rain mode to soften it up a bit and give him a chance to learn the bike. It just seems to take a little edge off the power hit.

Rain mode on the V85TT does not affect power output. It just reduces the non-linear throttle control programming a bit, apparently makes ABS and Traction Control a bit more sensitive (I’ve yet to feel those effects and doubt you would on a dry road) and per the owners manual restricts top speed. I haven’t had opportunity to check how maximum speed is limited, but regardless power at any lower speed is completely unaffected and I believe I’ve probably had it to 90 mph or so in Rain Mode without feeling any effect. If you wanted to go flat out, for example on a European highway, you could switch to Road Mode and then back again easily enough.
I fooled around with all three 2020 modes yesterday while blasting along on a local twisty road. Rain mode seems the most pleasant to me and ultimately on that kind of road I’d choose it to make the best time, most easily.
I think the manufacturer screwed up the TBW programming on the 2020 V85TT by trying to make the engine feel extra zoomy, as you open the throttle it gains sensitivity with rising RPM in any of the modes. The result in Road Mode feels gimmicky and contrived to me, slightly notchy and anxious on a bike that is otherwise very settled and predictable. I think Rain Mode feels considerably better, with less of this effect, and although I haven’t ridden one I’d guess the 2021 model with its revised and extra modes may have addressed the issue.

It fits with my observations, but I had not joined the dots as forensically as you. I’m glad someone with some diagnostic skills has a similar opinion.

Don’t know about the V85TT but my 2017 Stelvio was very twitchy at light throttle. Installed a Booster Plug that made a huge improvement to the ride.

I'm beginning to suspect there's significant variation between different bikes. My V85TT is somewhat less twitchy than my sofa. Though it's faster, nimbler, and a lot more fun.
Of course my sofa doesn't have that howling noise from the Anakee Adventure tires. Maybe I should lean it into the turns harder...

Experimented with this on the way to work this morning. To me, Rain mode seems to soften the low speed jerkiness I sometimes get. Power didn't seem dramatically impacted. Did see traction control engage on a really nasty bump. I plan to experiment with this a bit more. It was pretty cold and that was distracting me a bit.

Can you disable the modes on the V9 ?
Can you elaborate what you do and why ?
