I roll my own Kev,, acetone / atf 50/50 , 3 and 1 oil has always been my favorite for lubing and protecting all my carpentry and shop tools , WD 40 for sharpening on oil stones and many cleaning tasks. Wd40 is also great for removing clouds in a lacquered finish from alcohol spills ect. not that I ever spill any alcohol

I keep a can of Fluid Film for corrosion control. Non-flammable and non-toxic.
We started using this on boat stuff, trailer light connections, etc - and other rusty things on motorcycles and such.

The book Tractor Magneto Repair listed an obscure brand of penetrating oil that they said was top notch. Unfortunately I'm traveling right now, without the book, but I will post it in a few days.

I started using liquid wrench back in my wheelchair tech days. Nothing like pee to freeze up bearings, nuts and bolts. We would get a chair from the cleaning room, take one look and reach for what we called "panther piss" A couple of days and some gentle persuasion, and some new hardware and BAM back on the road! :thumb:
-
Aerokroil for the really stuck stuff
PB Blaster, WD40 and Liquid Wrench for routine and what's available
Ballistol for cleaning and making pretty..... Is safe on wires, is a great cleaner, degreaser, etc.
I use the Liquid wrench silicone, white lithium, and graphite sprays

I've got all that crap and grab the one that is closest...I don't play favorites!

We used diesel fuel on the farm. Works well on rusted bolts, I think because it penetrates easily. Otherwise I do the same as Guzziart. Now it’s usually farther to get diesel fuel than to grab whatever is close

We have a concoction of LPS-2 and 0W-20 motor oil and keep some of it in one of those trigger-pump oil cans. We use that [censored] on everything that even looks like it might squeak or stick. I'm sure that it is a lifetime supply.
:boozing:
WD-40 is also good for removing road grime from laced chrome wheels. Regular mineral spirits is a bit more aggressive.

My dad used tell me it's good for arthritis and other aches & pains.

I’ve started using a product called Mouse Milk.

Kroil! Great a cleaning nasty crud out of old gun barrels and great in general.

WD40 also works pretty well on removing all those damn stickers on your new bike. All those EPA compliance stickers all over the rear fender of my new Audace in plain sight were taken off WD40. I would still like to know who stuck them on. The factory, dealership or ?

Baby oil or baby wipes will remove oil, tar, sticker residue and a multitude of other things without damage. Smells nice too 👍
-
Coca Cola for freeing rusty nuts. I believe some people actually drink the stuff….😉

Got it now, the book How To Restore Tractor Magnetos recommends the penetrating oil Maltby Ferret.
In the book (published almost 30 yrs ago) a salesman sold the shop a case of Maltby Ferret for re-sale. The shop couldn't sell it, so they gave it to the mechanics in back. Amazingly, it was better than sesame seeds on a bun, almost working by itself to free bolts. They used up the case, but never heard from the salesman again.
It's hard to find, and might only be available by the case, but I'd like to get some. Anyone want to split a case with me?

The best I’ve come across is Bulldog BDX, free seized. bolts, protects and lubricates. I lube my chains on my non Guzzi’s with it as well. Google is your friend.

^ This. I'll also have some ready without the acetone if using close to some finish I'm concerned about the acetone compromising.
Was gifted a can of fluid film and have been impressed with how well it penetrates after a period of time.

The Maltby website isn't working. It's not letting me complete a purchase. I'll call their no. tomorrow. Oddly, the penetrating oil is their only product, and I can see how their business might be failing. With this business skill they should open a Guzzi dealership.

Interesting. Maybe defunct? I tried calling the phone number and it picks up with a recording. I called after hours.

Maltby Ferret Co. returned my call from last week and left an apologetic message. They are still in business, but it looked like they sell only by the case, which is what I remember from years ago. A case is $70, with shipping of $30 to 40 (maybe less if I can find a commercial place to ship to.
So...anyone want to split a case?
