New two wheel toy
« on: September 14, 2021, 10:29:06 AM »
G/F wanted to ride and she was unsuccessful with both a scooter and small MC but wildly successful and enthusiastic with an electric Bicycle! So, of course I got one and this is so fun!! Now we have 2 pairs of electric bikes from RAD power bikes. Fear no Hills now and while peddling is still great excercise the help to get over hills and run with traffic at 20-25 miles per hour is great fun. We find ourselves often 20 miles from home now on the ebikes! Highly recommend. Was downtown Seattle this weekend demo riding new foldable style and spotted no less than 4 other motorcycle riders and passengers coming in to demo and buy. Here is a copy of mine with a GIVI locking box on the back for our seems like daily run to go shopping. Even have SENA communication helmets like those available on the MC. Works great for listening to music and GPS while having voice activated intercom with each other. Expensive hobby in some respects. Battery lasts 3-5 years currently replacement is $550. It's a new world out there with electric car and bicycles.

very cool! I was SHOCKED when my dad traded in his Road King and got a TREK...  but him and my step-mom are having a blast with theirs. They loaded them up and buzzed all over Charleston SC... Got to see all the sights without melting in that terrible heat walking around. They ended up touring a couple hundred miles around the city over several days.  For a guy who used to drive a cart and chomp on a big stinking cigar every time he golfs, really nice to see dad active.

When we visited SOCAL in June, there were TONS of electric bicycles everywhere, like this one... :thumb:

Prices NOT for the faint of heart!!!

Also, here in VORTEX-Land, all the tourists now rent electric bicycles and flood the roads!

RadMini 4 high bar.  Two months.  What a hoot!  My 'go to' for around town errands.  Here camping in the Sierra's and dragging the cargo to the Pinecrest Lake beach.

My sister and I rented E-Bikes in Hampton Beach and rode the bike paths and rail to trails.  It was good fun.

Bicycles are suicide where I live.  A prominent dental surgeon in our area was killed while on a group ride this summer.  I feel much safer on a motorcycle than I would on a bicycle.

If I were to do another camping road trip I would consider one to bring along with one of my motorcycles to experience all the rails to trails and bike paths that are around the country that allow you to see areas you can't on the motorcycle.

We rented 2 and rode 40 miles in Anchorage. The were power assisted but you had to pedal and had plenty of charge left at the end of the day.Which ones do you all recommend and how much range and price?

The $1500 - $2000 area has some keen players to chose from..  RAD is the go to right now with warranty, customer service and proof of balanced concept.  Ride1up from San Diego is good also.  Right now the ebike industry is wild and wooly like the early years of aviation or cars.

I think Ebikes are the best application of battery power for vehicles. Hills? No problem. Some people would want more range, but mine will go about 50 miles between charges if I use the power judisciously, and that's more than I'm going to ride in one outing.
