It's a good time, even if the beer isn't cheap.

That show looks neat!  Maybe I will go.  I will have to search for campgrounds near there.

Yup, he's a good guy. we've been trading emails and talking parts for years.  He might be bringing me some goodies tomorrow....

We are looking forward to the Meltdown tomorrow. We have attended all of them. We will go to the show on the street and check out all of the amazing bikes that show up. There is a huge variety of European bikes that will be on display. We go up the hill to Guidon Brewery next door that has excellent cold beer and a food truck as we don't care for the beer at Appalachian Brewery. Good to have a choice!

I’m not going to be able to attend this great event due to not getting finished with my Fall farm work.
Therefore a bunch of pictures will be necessary 👍👍👍👍
Everyone please ride safe!

My son and I had a great ride up and back through the twisties. He can sure ride that little 550 Kaw! I covered 485 miles on the CB. Lots of fun with this!
Weather was perfect for the most part, some rain riding back through the mountains but who cares, just another opportunity to practice being smooth :thumb:
Kept on trucking and eventually rain let up and sun riding dried us up. Love that feeling! Another sweet ride in the books..

Nice meeting Cliffrod and seeing how his Tribute Guzzi has progressed!

Can't wait until next Meltdown!

It was a good day.  Great to see Tazio & The Mayor and meet their chaperones.  More tents, fewer bikes, but still a good time.

The only downer was the Best Italian winner.  I think all voting was peoples' choice. I didn't enter, so don't know..  I don't do show stuff.  The Mayor's newly finished white Ambassador was stunning, like so nice I would rather not be close to it.    There was an 850 Eldorado that was close, if not equal to it with disc front end and PERFECT original cigar mufflers that he installed in the mid 90's during a rebuild.  Think there were half a dozen Loops there to park with.  Very cool.  Chad's bike was clearly at the top of the bunch- it was the cleanest most perfect ridden vintage Italian bike there.

Then there was this bitsa 450 Ducati.  Just a rider, complete 250/350 Spanish MotoTrans Ventos chassis, front end, gauges, seat, sheetmetal with wrinkled torn & illegible Ducati Bologna decal added to the neck, a 450 engine with partial serial numbers removed, 450 R/T desmo head (desmo was also filed off the cam cover?) that smoked worse than any two stroke there. Not kidding.

Not sure if dude was clueless about how wrong it was or knew & hoped no one else noticed, but he bragged all day long about how rare a 450 desmo is.  When you put a much more plentiful and less $$ R/T head on a street bike, especially in a non-450, non-Italian chassis, the "rare" claims are bs.    I politely brought up a couple of the discrepancies to feel him out, but he had a couple more singles and apparently knows lots more than I do....  So I left him to his bike and stories.  I'm a huge Ducati fan, but that bike needed more than just a little help or honesty.

Guess who won the trophy?

IMHO, it's a drag to see a majority Spanish-built bike claim an award as an Italian bike.  Whether ignorant or dishonest, it's not cool.  The Mayor's gorgeous Ambassador should have won.

Rant over.

Had a great day at the Meltdown--  always super to see friends, future friends, and acquaintances out just loving motorcycles!

I stayed really busy talking to folks, which is NOT my usual forte so I only took a handful of pics.  Seemed like less bikes than years past, but there was an array of cool stuff, lots of quality bikes over quantity.  Guzzi was well represented with about 5-6 loopframes, a LMI, and 1-2 others on hand. I saw a beautiful V7 Sport with a disc front end (would have won best italian if it had been entered IMHO), a Stelvio, and a couple V7's & a V85 parked around but not entered.

here's some quick random snaps

super clean CBX, the owner kept taking requests to fire it up, but he would just start it and shut it off... no revving like a yahoo  :embarassed:
It did sound sweet tho and it was clean as a pin. I love these bikes even though everyone says 'they werent that great/fast'.

this thing got a lot of attention, the guy riding it was wearing a life vest lol

Real nice LMI

Tasty Taco!

real nice survivor Monza 250 with original paint... This would have been my pick for 'Best Italian' if I were judging. I wasnt as mad about it as Cliffrod tho!  :boozing:  :boozing:  I dont know enough about Ducati's to see what the deal was with the 450 that won. I just thought this bike was cool, funky, and in great unrestored/preserved shape.

This Nimbus hack won 'Best German' since they were occupied at the time of production- so it qualified! Cool bike. Owner was happy to chat about it all day. Very charismatic machine.

Here's my wife and he best friend ignoring $125k(?) worth of Vincents...  They were too enamored with a 1926(?) Triumph model P that they just spent 40minutes drooling over the oil headlamp and the picnic basket on the rear rack :thumb:

That's it!
We came, we saw, I drank cold Rose' while the lady ate french fries...  then we rolled home. A good day. I didnt even get a pic of my own bike lined up; or about 30 other sweet bikes I should have documented!

I do hope they permanently move this show to fall... the weather was BEAUTIFUL and much less chance of rain vs. the normal mid-may date.

Yeah, I know...  I probably would have been less wrinkled if that dude hadnt parked next to me and gone on all day about that 450 and how rare it is.  I forgot to mention I had to wipe the continuously dripping oil (from exhaust port) off of the cases to notice the case numbers were partially filed off...

The 250 Monza is a nice little bike.  I worked on it up at the shop a few years ago just after he got it & helped him get acquainted with these singles.  Later I did a magazine article on it for my monthly column.  The last time I talked to the owner (great guy), he had gotten a real 450 Mark3 Desmo plus more.  Knowing he had an original street 450 Desmo made my meltdown neighbor even more relevant..

I was going to ask about the Nimbus as well but missed the owner before he disappeared into the crowd.  There was one in the shop for work several yrs ago, unrestored with spray bomb monochrome paint iirc, after it came out of long storage.  Wondered if that mid be the same bike many yrs and many many $$$ later.  Not very common around here.  But it didn't have a sidecar then.

The Nimbus was very cool but I think they were trying to rib the BMW guys a bit giving it the 'German' trophy! Most of the Ton Up guys are big brit bike riders, so a little good-natured fun
