Billy Joel on the Springsteen breakdown thread merge

Check out last night's "Late Show" with Stephen Colbert as he interviewed Billy Joel to hear the words "Moto Guzzi" mentioned TWICE on national teevee... :thumb:

Too funny - my first reaction - " Hey, I know EXACTLY what part that is ! " having stared at mine multiple times
That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

Maybe we can get him to write a song too  a la Piano Man...!

It's nine o'clock on a Saturday
The red suspender crowd shuffles in
There's an old man sitting next to me
Makin' love to his V7 in the parts bin

He says, "Son, can you play me a memory
I'm not really sure how it goes
But it's sad and it's sweet and I knew it complete
When my Guzzi was all on its toes ."
(Alt. refrain:  When I wore my touring bike clothes)

La la la, di da da
La la, di da da da dum

Sing us a song, you're the Guzzi man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, we're all in the mood for a V-twin melody
And you've got us ridin' alright

Now Guzzista John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my parts for free (tee hee)
And he's quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there's some garage he'd rather be

He says, "Bill, I believe this gearbox is killing me."
As the smile ran away from his face
"Well I'm sure that I could be a movie star
If I  could get out of this race

I'm reading Bruce's autobiography "Born to Run."  FABULOUS story. Honest, self effacing, hard working.  Seems like a genuinely good man and tremendously charismatic.

Ahh Haa!   Redemption!  So many in the thread were so convinced that the bike broke down because Bruce was trolling along at low rpms with the touring lights on, and that pulled the battery down, and thus surly the BJs shop failed to let Bruce know.  At least that was the general assertion, which became next to fact for many.

I kept piping up that it might not be,  and that perhaps there was another cause, do you recall that Kev M?   Well, I was right, according to BJ, it was a faulty voltage regulator, that he actually brought to display to the world, simply to prove bad Chad was right again!

OK sure. So somehow in your world a relatively new bike built by BJ's shop should have a voltage regulator go bad.

I mean sure, it can happen. If that's the explanation fine.

Of course it's also possible BJ's shop was still to blame no? Maybe pinched or cut harness when fitting that tank?

No matter, it wasn't particularly important the first time. And if it's all true and our theory was wrong so be it.

It's not like we had money riding on it.

Nor was it half as innacurate as half the crap that passes for news these days...(that better Dusty).

Funny

Big Bruce Music fan but he was terrible in concert - at least the one I attended in Tampa ~2010
Not a huge fan of Joel's music but one of the best concerts we ever attended 2016.

Ponti- Bruce terrible in concert?   I am flabbergasted by that.   I wouldn't put Bruce at the very top my favorites but he writes great songs, has a strong band and every show I've seen (in person and video has been great).

He may not be in my top 5 favs, prolly in my top 10.  I will say no one seems to work harder on stage.

I'm telling you it was bad.....voice.....s ound.  Maybe a bad night....maybe venue....not sure.  One of my biggest disappointments as I really like his music.  Saw The Who last year....those boys can still throw a show too.

Live Downloads

1.  Bruce, Buffalo, concert. 22 Nov 16
5.  Bruce, Foxbororo Mass concert.  14 Sept 16
8.  Bruce, E Rutherford, 30 Aug 16

3 in the top 10

http://www.livedownloads.com/

Pearl Jam also had 3 in top 10, Govt Mule 2.

I ordered the Dead & Co show I saw in Boulder CO last July.  It's great, recording quality and performance.  (I wonder if Rocker ever got the copy I burned him?)

Yes and again only marginally like a couple of his songs but one of the better concerts I have attended and I've been to a few.  ;)

I will say no one seems to work harder on stage.

I saw Bruce in Oakland in the mid 1980's and in San Jose a few years ago. Sat behind the stage in San Jose and Bruce spent a lot of time playing to the audience behind him. I was impressed. He worked hard that performance. He sounded great both times.

I remember when Born to Run came out in 1975. I was 16 at the time and I bought the 8-track and wore that thing out.

His 1993 unplugged album is fantastic and one of my favorites.
I'd much rather ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

Early Billy is incredible.  Bruce can't sing, sorry (lousy pitch, saggy voice).  His genre of singing I can't relate to besides.   My perspective.
