Just trying to help out a friend.
« on: April 24, 2015, 07:03:03 PM »
A good friend was recently told that he should stop riding by his doctor (I would find a new doctor). I think its related to his medication and heart condition. He has a 2007 Breva 750 with only 9200 miles on it. I gave it a quick once over and it cleaned up really nice. It has been well maintained and was just into Moto International for a check up and a new battery. I don't see any of these for sale on eBay or locally on Craigslist so I am looking to set a fair price for him and a buyer. Is $3900 in the ball park for one of these?
Thanks, Matt

I think you're close ... a lot of it depends on region and season ... springtime is good.

I'd advertise it for $3900 and take $3500 if someone showed up with cash and a trailer ....

Sounds like you're about right, if it's clean. They really are nice bikes for the money and not readily available. That's a nice garage you've got too by the way.

Thanks, it's getting a little crowded or I might consider buying it myself or for my wife's next bike.

For reference. Prices in the SF Bay Area are a bit higher than other places I think.

He should do exactly that... stop riding by his doctor.   :D

Or maybe START riding by his doctor instead of stopping in and listening to him.

My doctor is an exception, but most doctors hate motorcycles, and I've had friends given solemn orders by their doctor to stop riding their motorcycle because of some health reason.   They'll pick just about any excuse - high blood pressure ("You might have a stroke while riding!"), high blood sugar ("You might go into a coma!"), high cholesterol ("You might have a heart attack while riding!"), use of Viagra ("Your blood flow will go to the wrong head!") and whatever.

If Doc says stop driving, period, that's one thing.   If you have a condition that makes it dangerous to drive a car because you might pass out and lose control of it, that's a good reason to stop driving and riding.    But if he says stop riding your motorcycle but you can still drive a car, better get out the BS detector and turn it on and calibrate it ... If I'm not endangering others and can thus still drive a car, I'm for SURE going to be the one who makes the decision as to whether to ride a bike or not, since I'M the one at risk from whatever the condition is, and not anyone else ....

But that's just me.   If the Breva guy feels that he should stop riding, I'm sorry for him, but he'll be happier with the money and another guy will be happy with a nice Breva ....
