Shudder. That pretty gold torque link attached to the CARC looks dangerous to this engineer. That link takes both compression and tension loads, and since somebody machined out two long sections of web from the I-section, that just leaves the thin outer caps to take the load. The capability of that link to take compression without buckling has been reduced considerably. Maybe it won't fail; but, I wouldn't want to be riding the bike when it does.Has anybody seen this done on other CARC bikes? Taking weight out through machining can be a fine thing; but--sheesh--not there.
I hate that they call it an "MGS-01 Replica", because mechanically, it's a Breva 1200 Sport. It's still a big, long, heavy CARC Guzzi under that MGS-01 looking fiberglass bodywork. What I'd like to see is someone take an MGS-01 chassis and use a V11 Sport/Lemans/Sport 1100 engine, or adapt a new 1200 8V.What makes the MGS-01 special is its chassis. Not its racy plastic bodywork.
I saw an article years ago where they had a "MGS-01" Kit for the Centauro...This was about in the same timeline when the MGS-01 first came onto the scene..It looked very nice, in pics.-
That kit was made by two friends of mine in Austria. They just made it from the mgs01 pictures available. http://www.motoblog.it/post/877/moto-guzzi-mgs-01-corvile-stradale
This rendition looks spot on with the featured Centauro engine... -
I agree, Piaggio needs to make a MGS 02. There is a real market for a 450Lb air cooled MG making 135hp, why not make a halo bike to fit the bill?
Yup, that was it. Thank you..This rendition looks spot on with the featured Centauro engine... -
You won't get that kind of power out of an air cooled motor and pass emissions it will have to be water cooled.
