Good to see your up and yapping Clancy. Is a bit odd to come across one
like that at Midday, glad you came through it.

Oh, Roo doesn't taste like Beef at all. It has it's own slightly stronger flavour
And it's very lean - sere quickly over a high flame and go for rare or
slow roast a joint .......... yum.

Maurie.

Horse meat was the thing in the U.K. Re cently  . Maybe Roo burgers on the menu at Maccas would help keep numbers down - they'd be jumping out the door.

Hey Clancy. It looks like your tip over sensor doesn't work too well either. At least not as designed. The one on my V7S doesn't, for sure. Engine still running when flat on it's side, so use the kill switch. Once up right again, doesn't start at all until the ECU is re-set by removing the negative terminal for a while. For a while afterwards, some problems in starting - solved by leaving the starter button pressed while clicking the kill switch until it catches fire. Go figure. Working fine now, so I haven't got around to checking the contacts in the kill switch yet.

Jim, if roos can't be taught to cross a road safely, a sidecar is out of the question. Besides, they won't fit - built wrong for sidecars. Might work on a flatbed, but they tend to be fidgety.

Roo & black bean sauce, Cantonese style is very good; also Roo Rendang. Roo meat on the road is good, it  keeps a few days at least without refrigeration, so it's convenient for camping.

Glad to hear that you got off so lightly Clancy.

Roo is delicious, slightly gamey. As red as beef, less gamey than venison.

Like Maurie said, rare (or medium rare) is the way to go. I like to marinate and bbq it.

Is Australia the only country that eats its national mascot? Kiwis don't eat kiwi, Americans don't eat bald eagle. Canadians drink the blood of the maple, I guess that counts :-)

Coyotes thin the deer herds down pretty well. Probably, though, anything introduced to thin out the roo herd would most likely eat humans.. :boozing:

Cougars would probably thrive well in Australia, and I am certain they would learn to love too.
Wouldn't it be lovely to be camped out in the outback and hear the melodious scream of a Cougar?
Or the beautiful song of coyotes calling each other to a kill?

Roo leather is supposed to be some of the best. Held gloves use it.

I feel the same way about deer - there should be open season on the things, especially within a mile of any highway! But no, that's not legal. In fact, it's even not legal to pick up a dead one, put it in the trunk and take it home. How crazy is that???

In Sept 2004 I hit an elk and totalled an R11S. Went into a wobble and over a 20ft embankment. Luckily I only broke six ribs on the left side, but that was bad enough.

Animal strikes are no fun!

I've heard several stories of guys hitting deer at 60mph or more and cutting them in half. That's gotta be a messy picture!

Sounds like Roos are the perfect meat solution for the planet!

There was a hamburger chain on the west coast of the U.S. called "Jack-in-the Box", that if I remember correctly got caught selling kangaroo meat in their hamburgers, in the early 1980's.

I ate there all the time.

The reason there isn't an open season on deer is before the 1920's or so there were no hunting laws and in many areas hunters had killed everything. This being  good or bad depends of if you hunt or make a living from hunters............

Kev, you can get roo at the supermarkets -Coles & Woolies for sure, sometimes IGA. Pass on the sausages, but the steak & the fillet are good, as is the marinated steak && the kebabs. The mince makes a mean chilli, but you'll need some fat in it - or mix with other mince. Roois sold with an 8 week shelf life - the closer to the use by date, the more tender. Prime rule - don't overcook it - it then becomes tough. A lot less cooking than beef, about the same as salmon.

Kiwi probably tastes ok, I'm sure the Maori would have dined on them often in the early days. Pretty easy to catch or trap I'd say. Prob taste a bit chook like but not as much meat on them as a moa, bigger than an ostrich they were.

No Moa! No Moa!
They've et em and there ain't no Moa.

The extinction of the Moa also caused the demise of the Haast Eagle (the biggest known to have existed) for whom the Moa was the main food source.

Well, I didn't get the chance to perform an autopsy. The assessor got to it at the tow truckie's yard and has written it off.

So the quest begins for a replacement. Right now there's a good deal on a bike in Geelong in Victoria that is being considered. Not a V7 but still a Guzzi...........

Since Wyno lives in Geelong I may be able to kill two birds with one stone, drop Wyno's *Refreshed* Griso back down to him and pick up the other bike for the return trip. Savings for both! Bonus!

Since Peter Stevens Imports took over importing Guzzis, only Peter Stevens dealerships are Guzzi dealers. The entire existing dealer network got shafted.

You can find the locations on motoguzzi.com.au
