When you come to KS take Hwy.36 across the state, NOT I-70! You will enjoy it much more and it will be much more interesting. Take a side trip to Lucus, KS and see the "Garden of Eden" Nothing quite like it.

My aims this year.
Get the Lemans 3 back on the road after dropping it last November on the way to a rally.
Hopefully stop finding worn out stuff as I dismantle things to repair stuff.
Last major rebuild was 1995 and 90,000 miles ago, jeez its hard to get reliability these days........

No snow this year Bucky , we are getting Winter out of the way early this year

Man, I hope so...we had 2 weeks straight of sub zero temps. Yesterday was +24F and I was out and about no gloves, hat or real coat. Just a sweatshirt hoodie. It felt like a nice fall day compared to the past 2 weeks!

I've got a lot that I'd "like" to do. I always aim high, but manage to fall short.  Work always gets in the way.  Some events I'd "like" to do this year in no particular order are:

* Cedar Vale (will be tough due to son graduating same weekend), Council Grove Kansas, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Mo-Kan, Iowa, Okie, Texas

* 7-10 day vacation/solo ride to who knows where and when. No plan, no agenda, no map. Just riding. Though knocking off all the missed northern states (on my map) west of Minnesota are on the radar.

* I do get to ride to work 50% of the time, so that gets me a little fix, but only counts for 40 miles per day. Only managed to muster up 8,000+ miles in 2017.  Shooting for 18K this year. We'll see.

JJ.. there's no time like the present. Get on that Centauro and come to the Arkansas Spine Raid..  :thumb:  You'll be glad you did.. the old hotel is a treasure, and the area is gorgeous.

Thanks Chuck and LowRyter! - - Remember, May 4-6 is our N.A.R. in Cottonwood, so I have to help with that event.

Sadly, I went back to work full-time Dec. 11th.  I'll be 64 this August and plan on working just another 2 years, until 66, and then that's it...God willing, maybe I will be around long enough to ride someday in ARKANSAS in the month of May or later... :thumb:

Is there a Guzzi scene at Daytona Bike Week? I ask because I live near Tampa and most of these get-togethers are on the other side of the country.

Yes there is. A number of us camp at Lake Monroe campground in DeBary. We affectionately call it Camp Carlo.
Some guys camp elsewhere closer to town.

What are the upcoming dates for the Wisconsin rally in 2018?  Thanks.

It's normally the last full weekend in July. Ccoli should have details..
Edit:
Never mind. They've changed it to Aug 3-5.

I need to make it to Wisconsin this year to visit family anyway, might as well try to work it around these dates so I can ride over from Hartford and spend at least 1-2 days at the rally.  Probably will have to trailer the bike up with me from Houston and then just ride over on County road P, then Q, then DD, making a right at 60 and up W.

I certainly like Seth's deal in Paonia Co, Top O' The Rockies Rally.

I hope to be back.   We need a few more Guzzis to fight the Beemer horde.

Thanks Seth!

Key for this list: 'G' indicates Guzzi-specific event, 'M' indicates motorcycle event but not Guzzi-specific

* Buy a Griso - G - (working on it!)
* Mecum Auction - G/M - (I live here, why wouldn't I go?)
* Arrange major surgery for the Norge - G - through the spring
* Masters' RTE, the Weekend of Wretched Excess - M - BBQ till you burst, Mar. 23 & 24 all around the Augusta GA area. Yeah, it isn't Texas BBQ, but it's the next best thing.
* Several spring rides, including a likely trip to Shasta CA to get a RDL for the Stelvio - M - timing TBD (may do CA-1 in all or in part if the road is clear)
* Gathering of Eagles, Cottonwood AZ - G - May 4 & 5
* Several summer rides and/or rallies - M - TBD, may include the Seattle event (?)
* NM Guzzi Rally in Datil - G - third weekend in August
* Utah not-a-rally - G - We'll see if this works out for the event and for me; weekend after Labo(u)r Day
* MTF Founders' Feast - M - late September, Ohio
* IBA Annual Meeting - M - early October, DFW (including a day or two on the side in the Hill Country and SA)
* Eldridge Childrens' Home annual toy run - M - Eldridge AL, first Saturday in December (pending)

Should be a quiet year. I'm gonna have to work a couple of scuba diving trips in to this somewhere to take up the slack.

The Norge needs a clutch, swingarm and head bearings, and some other significant maintenance items - no real 'problems', just what comes with the miles it now has. I classify as major anything that I don't have the skills or tools to do.

This coming need was part of the reason I started on my CARC ownership expansion program - after all, I need something to ride while Niccolo has his prostrate exam!

6. Maybe the Utah NAR in September?

Dead & Co are in Boulder the weekend prior. (13th-14th)

Look out Seth.   Dead + Guzzi Rally.   I'd like to be in Colorado in July.  Just giving you warning, Seth.

Since I had so much fun riding the Trans Lab last Summer, I'll probably be doing the MABDR (Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route) and possibly tying it into either the Horzons Unlimited meet in VA or wrap it up with the annual Puppy Dog ride in Vermont.

http://ridebdr.com/MABDR

I have a bit of prep work to do on the Stelvio beforehand though. At 90,000 miles, I'm going to preemptively do the clutch over the winter. It works fine, but it's probably getting close with all the commuting and off road work I've done with it.

Any tips along the route greatly appreciated. (cool hotels/motels/places to eat/roads/scenery/monuments/bars/breweries etc...)

After the Grand Canyon: Page AZ, Kanab (89A, 89 is OK too), north to Hwy 12 - Bryce Canyon, Escalante, Boulder. If you want to stay on pavement, north to Torrey, east to Hanksville, and southeast to Four Corners. If gravel is OK then I recommend going east from Boulder on the Burr Trail into Capital Reef, then south to Bullfrog on Lake Powell and take the ferry across.
Shortly after Natural Bridges NM go south on Hwy 261 - it will take you down the Moki Dugway, a good dirt road that switchbacks down several thousand feet, to Valley of the Gods. The road thru VotG is dirt with washboard and several dry stream crossings with deep sand. Also in that area is Gooseneck State Park.
Happy Trails

Rides planned for 2018

Early February: Baja for two weeks.
May, first weekend: Moto Guzzi  NAR, Cedar Vale, KS. Visit my brother. Sorry JJ, I enjoyed Cottonwood last year, and Overland Expo was the next weekend; this year it is two weeks later.
May, third weekend: Overland Expo in Flagstaff.
June, first weekend: Moto Guzzi Nat’l Rally, Seattle – this is a maybe, probably not
June, last weekend: Virginia, for National Blacksmithing Conference. This is a week to ride out and a week back, or longer. I'm thinking of tagging the 23 states I haven't ridden in, plus four Canadian provinces.
July, third weekend?  Don’t know actual date yet. BMW rally in Paonia (& Moto Guzzi NAR)
August, second weekend: Rocky Mountain Blacksmithing Conference, Carbondale, Colorado
August, third weekend: Moto Guzzi rally – Datil, NM
September, second weekend: Moto Guzzi not-a-rally, Utah
October, third weekend: My annual desert retreat.
