Well, we're still maintaining a solid average age of 60 of those that replied with their ages.  This tells me that:

A: People don't start wising up to which motorcycle to ride until late.
B: Piaggio had better take notice and adjust accordingly. Maybe the V85 that the older folks hate will be loved by youth.
C: We need more dealers. Younger folks can't wrench for the most part. So, they will never buy a bike that the closest dealer is 100+ miles away.
D: None of the above matter, nor will change. Guzzi riders are going to ride Guzzi's no matter what.

I think we'll need a parallel survey then, since it appears that most folks actually start riding Guzzis when young and ride them for 30 or 40 years, so perhaps the average age of 60 has been riding Guzzis since their 30's!?  There appears to be more brand loyalty to Guzzis than to brands of cars!

At any rate, my takeaway is that these are good survey results, as it appears that motorcycling keeps you young at heart, adventurous and still actively engaged in life, look how many folks above 65 are riding and enjoying it.  Let's hope that for the youngsters in their 30/40's they carry on the Guzzi tradition.

That probably holds true for HD and the Japanese  machines as well and maybe what you start on is what you stay with.

Guzzi is almost( I have found since starting to ride one) unknown to the general population. (States)

No good cure for that?

It's a good illness to have - Severe Guzzi Itis!  I know I have wandered from Yamaha to BMW to Guzzi over the last 30 years, but been monogamous Guzzi for the last 10 years.  Perhaps in the future a GoldWing might appear, but not for a while!

More important just to have a motorcycle, rather than the brand...whatever is most appealing, right?

LIke cycling...Cannondal e, Bianchi, Pinarello, Motobecane, Specialized...all great brands, everyone has a preference!

Just need to have the freedom to ride...that's the most important!

The cost of owning a European brand may have a lot to do with age of ownership, I know at 26 a Guzzi used up a disproportionately large piece of my income.  I've owned many other brands both before and after as well, sometimes budget driven

BTW, only know of one that you have listed...I have lived a sheltered life...

Just as a data point, I have a Motobecane 529HT.
The best part of riding a motorcycle is to tilt the horizon and to lift the front coming out of a corner and to drift the back end powering thru loose dirt and to catch a little air topping a hill and... yeah it's all good!

Well done young fella. :thumb:  Enjoy.  You are probably aware by now that they are slightly different from run of the mill machines.  Addictive though.

Your age will have brought the median age down somewhat.

53 here..  You know. I bet if you polled owners of most of the other brands you will find the same results. At least for the older school brands... HD, BMW, etc...  Price has a lot to do with it also. A young rider can shuffle down to the local HYK dealer and get some cheap entry level bikes all day long..But some brands just have a higher cost of admission, and will therefor speak mostly to the older more established people..

That being said I see/hear a lot of younger riders are really liking the V7 models. The trend/fad of more simple, classic bikes is here, and MG finally fits into the market. And really the price wile not entry level, is pretty fair for the market..  I think they could sell a ton of them if the marketing/dealer network was there...

At this point in time, I had a fairly good job, and could keep myself in K bikes under warranty. Trade in value wasn't bad, and my job kept me busy enough that I didn't want to do the routine maintenance, and left it to the dealer.  I had good luck with the K's, and enjoyed riding them.  I suspect had I owned a Guzzi, the same may have been true, with a decent dealer.

Anyway, here I am, nearly 28 years ago, on the BRP.  I'd ridden from Ann Arbor MI.  I made this ride at least 3 times a summer when I lived in Michigan.  Think back 28 years, and report on what you were riding then, and your age. I was 48 in this pic.

Bob

If I'd only had a Sport when I was 28, like to think I'd still have it 34 years later.

34. Brought my EV home in April '09 when I was just 24. Three years later, brought my Sporti home (thanks Tazio!).

Man, I can't believe it's been 10 years on Guzzis already. Even with marriage and fatherhood that followed soon after (two boys), the bikes are still here. :thumb:
