Stelvio Steering Security Lock
« on: September 23, 2021, 01:38:39 PM »
So I'm doing my fork oil and wanting to check and grease my steering bearings. There is a steering nut lock washer in there, which has Piaggio part number AP8121207, but that is on backorder and coming from Italy after I'm dead. Do people know of any matching steering nuts from other bikes that fit? I'm sure frowned upon to reuse, but is the metal soft enough to do that safely? How are people checking these bearings without waiting forever for a $5 part? There must be specs on it somewhere that allow for a replacement from inside the States?

Thanks!

No one replaces the nut, it goes back on, torque so front falls like a bicycle, done.

That's good to know. Thanks. So long as the metal is pliable enough you should be able to bend those tabs up and down a few times gently without them breaking. What do you mean "torque like a bicycle"?

For the drop from center to flop over L & R. It changes w/preload.

Oh Ok. Yes, I'm familiar with setting these sorts of bearings to the sweet spot between tight and loose. Not flopping left and right too easily, but with very gentle finger tip pressure.
