AND Gentle Ladies.

Speaking of spring, some of you know about (and have even participated in) the annual Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride, AKA the DGR.

But I’m routinely surprised at how many riders don’t even know about it.

To make a long story short, it’s an annual charity ride that takes place in over 100 countries worldwide. This year, it’s on Sunday, May 19th. There’s likely a ride by you, wherever you are.

It’s a very Triumph-heavy event (they’re a sponsor), but I’ve ridden my Guzzi V7 in DGRs twice now. And there are plenty of other Guzzistas in the ranks.

To make a short story longer, I’ve (finally) gotten around to posting a ride report about it on my motoblog. It’s called An Urbane Adventure—and you can read it here: https://longitudeandgratitude.blog/2022/06/01/an-urbane-adventure/

If you’ve ever wondered about joining a DGR, I hope you’ll check it out. More importantly, I hope you consider joining a DGR ride this May (it’ll be here before you know it).

I’ve ridden DGRs three times now, and each one has turned into what I consider the best day of the year for me. It is, no exaggeration, that fun.  https://www.gentlemansride.com/

I rode two of them so far on my old chopper!  Broke down once of course!  lol.  But now they don’t do them in Chattanooga anymore and I am NOT riding in Atlanta traffic!

Check out my ride report! If Atlanta is anything like NYC, there is no traffic! In New York, the DGR is an official event and is overseen by the NYPD/New York Highway Patrol :copcar: ESCORTING the ride through traffic lights, intersections and highways. It’s magic!

Outstanding ride report, pics and videos.  I bet your daughters enjoyed it too.  Thanks for the nice report!

2024 will be my 9th DGR.

We had a nice group of Guzzi's in Indy in 2023.

In the past I tend to shy from the hipster dress-up organization, but dammit, now that I’ve moved to Portland, ME, I have a whole new city to start making friends and show off one of the bikes.

Do they allow sidecars? Shirley, they must.

It may be hipster dress up, but it’s really all in good fun. Folks couldn’t be more chill or collegial.

Last year they had just shy of 50 riders in Portland…kind of the size of ride I did in New Haven CT (in my RR here: https://longitudeandgratitude.blog/2022/06/01/an-urbane-adventure/)

And sidecars? Plenty, Shirley!

I'm considering joining the DGR from the Cleveland, OH rallypoint. I haven't gone deep enough into the registration to see what the costs are.

There are no costs - or more appropriately, fees - associated. You register, are encouraged to make a donation and then encouraged to get others to do the same.

Any costs are limited to what it takes to have a bike and complete the run, and wardrobe, of course.

What hasn't been mentioned here, and is often an afterthought in these conversations, is that this is a fundraiser for mens health. The funds generated are directed to organizations helping to combat mens mental health: 77% of suicides are men, 4x the rate of women, and also prostate cancer prevention and treatment.

It's simply a fun way to raise money for worthwhile causes, AND it's a highly visible way to show another side of Motorcycling to the general public that isn't "Sturgis' or a pack of squids on a urban expressway.

I’m just thinking of maybe making a weekend out of it at Suches then.

Do you camp/tent it there at Barbers?  I’m thinking of going to vintage days there in October.

This is good news. I had a feeling it carried an "entry fee" type donation that might be high enough to "maintain a high brow atmosphere" or discourage squids looking for scene points.

This is a big reason why I am interested in taking part.

I love this aspect of the event recap videos. Good fun, good cause, good atmosphere. I have a deep disdain for the stereotypical biker gang mentality and events catering to that crowd.

Yep.  All good points.  I’ve been in three of them so far.  Nice atmosphere.  Good people, good cause.  All positive in my opinion!  But there are some people that make fun of us dressing up and riding a motorcycle.  I don’t listen to those people!

Getting made fun of for dressing up yo ride a motorcycle?
