Beetle Maps are Impressive
« on: July 02, 2021, 08:45:48 AM »
Good Day

I just wanted to reach out and say Thank You as I finally got to it and installed the map recommended by Mark yesterday and even though I only went for a short ride Sonja is now so much smoother and low throttle is vastly improved and idle rpm is a little lower now as well.
I also donated to Guzzidiag as well, as this is a cooperative type deal, all you guys deserve a round of applause for all the hard work that you have done to get our bikes running properly.

Thanks Again, I Really Appreciate It

Great outcome!  The single most impressive modification I have made to my V7, Norge, and Griso has been the addition of Beetle maps, hands down.

In no way advertising for Mr Beetle here, that being said.
Over the years I have used his maps in every MG I’ve owned and after the install it brought the bikes Preformance to the maximum of its capabilities. Any questionable issues were addressed promptly and corrected.

Glad to see the bike doing great, enjoy👍

Whilst I echo the views of the members here regarding the improvements to small blocks and 8V’s, I find that the map/s that Beetle did for the early 2VPC bikes (my ‘07 Norge for example), are absolutely extraordinary.
When Pete loaded Beetle’s latest map into my Norge, we went out to see if the pinging stopped.
I got a 15 metre jump on him when he wasn’t looking and he on his Griso, could not start reeling me in significantly until 6,000 rpm (180 k).

Pulls like a train, never pings and returns 4.9 l/100 k. It can and has done 500 km on a tank...(just... :embarrassed:)

Huzo, is your 07 Norge stock?  I have a stock 07 Norge with only Matris suspension mods, fully adjustable front fork cartridges and Matris custom rear shock.  I was wondering what a custom map would do for my bike.  I only recently read about this forum and joined today.

All the best

Interesting, so you found your idle was lower as well?  I just installed the map on my 2014 with Agostini (I got the no cat, aftermarket exhaust with baffles) and immediately upon cold start that the bike was idling at a much lower RPM and sounded much different. I haven't noticed much difference in the other areas that you mentioned but I suspect it's there and I'm just too inexperienced of a rider to notice it.

The Beetle map for my 2018 Eldorado was marvelous , my greatest pleasure , other than it finally actually running like a happy motorcycle
when cold , it dramatically improved the shifting , which previously made me feel like a newbie shifter . And on touring setting I can get 20 km/liter !

I don't get it.  I tried to get a map for my stock Audace, he emailed me that he didn't have one. Anyone know differently?

Originally my girl would idle just under 1500rpm, with the new map she sits about 1300rpm
I noticed the low throttle response mainly because I have to park in a under ground parkade and must go very slow, just off idle
Before the map upgrade she was a little jerky at just off idle, nothing crazy but noticeable now the new map has taken
care of that all together.
My girl has Mistrals with the baffles in.
Overall I am very happy with the new map.

Do you have aftermarket exhaust on the Norge ?

It has a few cosmetic changes, but nothing that substantially affects performance.
Probably the most significant thing is a Nitron shock at 90,000 k.

From what I recollect there was an issue that cropped up on at least 1 example of a 1400 that prompted Mark to quit offering maps for it.

^^^^^^^
What Dave said.
When I contacted Beetle and discussed a map for my 2015 1400 tourer he advised that there had been an issue with installing a map in the 1400 series and that there could be a slight chance that the computer could be “bricked”.
I think that for the protection of 1400 owners, at the time which was over a year ago, he just didn’t want to be responsible for anyone having a serious problem with their bike because of his mapping.
It may be different now. I would just send him an email and ask.

Same issue of potentially bricking the computer on the V85.

Thanks for the info. Mark didn't say why in his email. I've done something else. I also keep it above 3,000 or below 2,000 in 1st or 2nd. Higher gears, 3,800 is the sweet spot not that she doesn't like to go higher.
