I’m still sitting on piles of parts so let me know if I can post anything down Clint. We need more pictures...

"Then I found the factory timing marks were no longer on the lightened flywheel...."

The timing marks on my CX with the stock flywheel were off which caused me a great amount of headaches until I talked to Dave Richardson and he informed me that it wasn't surprising for the factory to mark them in the wrong place. Then I just made adjustments to get it to run right and eventually adjusted the marks.  I have Agostini gears in the CX and 1000S without issue and the CX has had them in there since the mid 1990's and about the same amount of time in the 1000S. I'm not disagreeing with Mr.Roper as he's seen the inside of more engines than myself but I've had no problems; I would look closely at those gears for excessive wear.

My biggest obstacle lately has been free time to do any of it.   Carb kits and other parts are here and waiting.  Now that fall is here, some of the lawn mowing time normally becomes shop time for bikes & projects.

As easily as it started and runs well, the actual timing may not have been the main issue.  With the obvious work & mods done, the spark knock I noticed may be related to the advance springs in the distributor.  No idea what’s in there yet, but will work my way through it and find out.

I'm really digging my CX-100! Previous owner had done some bizarre stuff to it, but now that I have/am getting those issues sorted out, if is a sweet bike.  I still havent fully bonded with it, but it gets better every ride and I trust it more and more.

I changed the fork springs and shocks on mine last year. It's like riding on rails now. Rock solid in the corners!  :thumb:

Thats really cool, that you got the CX Cliffrod. Congratulations! I will be following your project, and am excited to see the finished product, and what direction you take it. That bike definitely found a "good home"  :thumb:

My lightened flywheel for the LM2 arrived with no timing marks; take the opportunity to use a piston stop and timing disc to add them in exactly the right place.
My flywheel chatters like a Ducati dry clutch when I pull the clutch in. If you're in need of tyres, I recommend Conti radials, I run them on standard rims tubeless.

I’m planning to check the present timing marks against piston & valve position to see how viable they are.  I have a new pair of Battlax tires on it now.  This flywheel/clutch makes noise when bike is in neutral, but quiets down when in gear with lever is pulled.

Thank, Rick.  I don’t have big plans to change it, just to get all sorted well and ride it.

I’ve made some progress lately.  Cleaned carbs, checked/set valve clearances, got the timing better sorted and linked brakes are improving.  The Bub exhaust sounds great.    I need to get some better gas than the handy ethanol-free 87 I use for the mowers.  It’s on the edge of ping now so the high rpm speeds are limited/avoided.

Compared to my V7 Sport, the lightened flywheel makes a noticeable difference in how the bike feels & engine performs.  as long as the revs stay up, it’s fine. There isn’t the very obvious rush of gathering momentum like the V7 Sport has as rpm increases, but it may be as much about the different engine dimensions & specifics as loss of flywheel mass.

Whatever it is, I’m not sure it will stay like this long term.  May go back to a plain flywheel.

great bikes! here is my le mans 2.
these are becoming rare , in original condition.
its a rider , not a showbike.
only mods are suspension front and rear,  deep sump and ignition.
I like it just the way it is, no intention to turn it into another fake 850 le mans.

Looks great, man.  I have no plans to change mine to mimic anything else.  I’m liking the square angular detail more and more as time passes even though I hate the original Lemans 1-2-CX100 seat.  The aftermarket Stucchi(?) seat makes my bike for me.  My lower fairings are in the shop.  I understand there is a fitment issue with the lowers vs the Bub head pipes which can damage the lower fairings.   I have some plans to check & address that issue after other projects are resolved.   So for now, it’ll just be the upper fairing for me.

Here’s a pic of mine from this morning, during a quick test ride-

nice one!
the original seat is not guzzi's best design  i have a gaman seat for it, but prefer the looks of the original
the gaman seat is probably more comfortable , but running a le mans for comfort misses the point why i own one. .
the le mans 2 /cx100 is a style icon from the eighties, i like it just because of that.

try the lowers just for fun , at high speed the original fairing is amazingly effective.
as long as you can cruise over 80 mph you stay virtually dry behind the fairing.

bought my le mans 2  as a cafe racer, and brought it back to stock.
i'm probably the only one in the world who modified a le mans 2 back to strictly standard condition

Thanks, guys.

You should haul that beast north and wake your sleeping ancestors Clint.

Yeah, I know, Ben..  Those long day rides up in VT this time of year get cold quick if you don’t quit early.  And quitting early means different things depending upon where you are.  Lots of fun to ride big in the late sun up along the big open west side of the state, then end up freezing when you go back into the hills in the middle where I’m from

Wish I had time to just ride over the mountain to Knoxville & back on two wheels instead of four for a change.  For the near future, that’s the bulk of my “getaway” miles- college & eldercare won’t last forever.
