71 Ambo
« on: March 20, 2019, 03:29:51 PM »
I recently purchased this crusty 71 Ambassador rolling chassis, I did get a 4spd trans a brake lever and a seat. I was planning on building an Ambovert, guess that will happen eventually. What do you think caused this:

I havent had a look at the drive yet, I can only imagine the worst, got a Convert drive to use anyway. The Fuel tank is also a Spaghetti strainer, never seen them rust out on top though! Anyone have a decent tank for sale or trade? DonG

I've seen a few like that. I'm guessing *abuse* - hard launches from a standstill while heavily loaded?

Abuse no doubt! Will get the rear end out and have a look at the crown and pinion. Here is a shot of the tank, looks like it has Herpes!

Ambovert sounds like a great idea. Good luck, looking forward to progress and pictures!

Yes we do,
I wonder whether you could extend the life by swilling some Por-15 or Caswell around.
I used Caswell on mine but it's not nearly as bad.

Looking good Don!

Did you get that bike out of Regina?

A friend told me about a loop with no motor for sale a couple weeks back but I resisted making the phone call!

Canuck: That one came from Saskatoon, was originally sold @ Prairie Cycle Works in Regina , the story I was told about it was the engine was pulled out in 1976(has 76 plate on it) at the dealer, the engine and exhaust system was not recovered with the bike. Likely someone didn't pay their bill! Anyway the present owner was selling parts off it, when I purchased it he made me promise not to part it out! Oh the hypocrisy!  So really all I got was a rolling chassis that is rusted bad , will build a fluid drive Ambo out of it.  DonG
