Good lord.  I did a search and discovered that dealers have them listed at $4500 !

I spent more than that just buying accessories for my BMW!

I'm going to try to make a test ride of a Himalayan.

Here's a humorous mini "review" from my buddy Leo of the Himalayan:

Loving it !   Comfortable seat and riding position.  Don't need handlebar risers.   Surprised I can ride all day in comfort.  I do use a sheepskin pad to  get a little more height. I don't really need more power.   Usually on back roads anywhere from 1st and 2nd gear to 55 - 60.   However, you do feel the loss of torque on long uphills.  Impressed with the aluminum "cans".   As you know, I've had Jesse, Happy Trails, BMW, Caribou etc.    Some costing up to $ 1,500 with racks and hardware.   For my money, RE's proprietary bags are as good as any of them and at  $ 740 with everything a real bargain.   Excellent design, easy to install.     Worst bags came on the Africa Twin from the factory.    Plastic bubblegum !  9" of road clearance and feet flat on the ground.   No nosebleed here !

Leo has been through a few "adventure" bikes since '09: 1200GS, 800GS, Super Tenere, 800 Tiger and Africa Twin (still has that one).

Got a chance to get up close and personal with a Himi this past weekend.

I walked away impressed. Decent machine, decent fit and finish, and for the price tag... hard to go wrong.

I may have to look into one of these for a commuter instead of a Zero because what I'd "save" each year in expenses on the Zero would buy an entire Himi. Now if they'll drop the 650 in there...

I know just for buzz around to the store and stuff...  Throw some side cases in it, and you got a nice run around, "go to store for milk, or hardwere store for project stuff" bike...

That is an excellent 6-part video series!

It not only gives some great first-hand feedback on a new Himalayan making a 3000-mile trip but provides an entertaining advent riding chronicle of the trip.

Makes me seriously consider selling my GS and getting a RE Himalayan.   It cruises easily at 70-75 with a solid and steady ride and it can handle about everything on-road or off.

Looks to have a LOT of character too. I like its traditional look.  It appeals to me more than any other such small cc bikes that I've seen.

.

Although he may not be the best Moto-Vlogger out there, he did a good job showing the first person perspective and experience with RE Hima. He doesn't baby the sh!t of the bike either.

Great 6 (or 7 with the review coming up) videos on the bike...

It isn't a speed demon but it sure takes you places!...

and Price to boot!

If the new RE 650 is anything close comfy and *reliable* as the RE Hima, it will sure turn the mid CC world upside down with its price.

I watched all 6 of the videos and enjoyed them immensely! Justin did a fantastic job IMO.

The dealer in Dulles, VA has two Himalayans for $4500 each. Might have to go ride one when the weather clears up a bit. Maybe they'll have the 650s by then too.

Is Jason the rider who had the pipes ceramic coated?    :thumb:   I enjoyed the vids also.
Makes me yearn for warmer temps!   We just got a new coating of the white stuff, with the probability of more on Sunday.   And then lower temps for next week.

Yes, Justin/Jason? had the exhaust and some other bits ceramic coated in the 2nd? video.

Pretty much the same weather here - we got snow Thurs.-Fri., nothing at the moment, but more crap coming and then the temps drop again for a few days.

Don't get me wrong, this series was surely entertaining for sure...

Just some of his other videos are not as so :P

Just binge watched 1-5 of Justin's videos. There is some awesome scenery there. I'd *love* to do that trip. Maybe at least part of it next year? I 'll only be 76..
The little Himalayan certainly is showing what it can do.  :thumb: Looks like a fine machine. Of course, he's not gone anywhere the AeroLario couldn't go.

When I test rode a Himalayan last year I found the riding position cramped and the seat confining, other than that I thought it was ok.  For the money (OTD) I felt I could do better buying a used Jap bike or whatever.  Just me...  Not sure but the OTD on the new 650's might tell me something similar, but they are pretty bikes.

Back in '07 I bought a new Ulysses from the Harley dealer in Anchorage.  I put on 5300 miles in Alaska, Canada, and the U.S. on the way home to Texas.  The scenery was good all through Alaska and Canada, but the best part is the Jasper and Banff area.  Absolutely spectacular there.

I've been test riding smaller adventure bikes because I have a lot of areas close to home that I won't explore on the current bikes.

I really liked the funky VanVan200 for the ultra comfortable seat, but the price was high for what you get.  It didn't impress other than the seat.

All the modern dual sports are out because of their 4 inch wide seats.  Just won't work for me.

Today I test rode the Versys 300-X and the Himalayan.  The Himalayan just felt more natural to me than the Versys.  The seating position was comfortable for the most part, but the pegs seemed back a little and the seat had a forward slant that I can fix.

I may see what I can do on the Himalayan tomorrow and since I live along the Tennessee TAT I might have to start getting in shape for a nice ride.
