Still Kicking
« on: April 14, 2024, 04:39:57 PM »
I will be 70 in a couple of months, and although 70 isn't ancient, I do feel lucky that my body is still sound enough to kick my Commando to life.

This picture was snapped last night.

Peter Egan blames his stroke on kicking over a Norton.

It has been that the anniversaries of my birth aren’t a big deal ! That said . The ones that end with a 0 are notable mile markers . I recently celebrated the twenty second anniversary of my 50th !

That’s a great picture Dave - worthy of a frame in your shop.  My 72 Combat is definitely an easier kick than some other bikes, unless it’s wet-sumped.  My kryptonite is the left side kick Ducati 450.  It lives to snap back while I am off balance and not committing to the follow through.

This was my friend Leo Rocca at 83 years old.

He always liked those "tall horses", but eventually had to settle for three wheels (Can-Am Spyder) to continue riding. He passed away last year at age 89.

I’m also turning 70 this year but have push button starts for all my bikes, including the Norton. Keep on kicking Dave!  :clock:

I'd like to "like" all these!
The only problem I ever had kicking my Norton was when it backfired and the top of my knee caught the handlebar. (when points were a thing)
I'd rather step on a Lego, that hurt me.

I don't actually miss kick starting my bike these days.

Aged 75. Had to put my bike rego on hold; on my last ride my friends had to help me on the bike...It may be circumspect to fix my body a bit before wheeling out the Breva again.

I am not old yet. My 79th birthday is tomorrow. So I won't be old for another year and a day.  :thumb:  I still moto camp,  the hardest thing to do is to stand up after crawling out of the tent in the morning.

I'll be 79 in a couple months, and still kick start my 56 Harly KHK, my 73 Triumph 750 Tiger and my 58 Ariel Square 4.  I like to rib the new macho HD pirates by telling them, "Real men kick start their Harley's" then kick mine to life and drive away.  It's amazing how many riders have never kick started a bike in there lives. I also keep all my kick start bikes in good tune otherwise they can be a real pain.
