Lunch stop on the last day. Norman Bridge with later Gothic additions...
Hi John,the bridge was built in the 1300s by the Norman Earl of Cornwall. It was upgraded I think in the 1500s - that's the bit on the left of the picture with the Gothic type arches. Had to be done as the river had moved away from the original part of the bridge. Walking around the town there was a house built in 1500 from stone blocks, not a huge place but solid! I'll go back to Lostwithiel - its not far away but quite a charming place - when its open! The other advantage is it leads onto the East Taphouse to Pelynt road - a real romp over the hills.
