I can't get a replacement for the low fuel light sensor either.  I just use the trip odometer.  I fill at 140 miles or so.  Those things have been out of stock for a long time.

But it is low tech. It is a 'rock' with two wires attached. It is not that hard to solder a new one inside the can.

It generally speaking is very reliable. But some engineer decided to use an identical 12 volt connector beside it. Get them crossed, and it can melt the solder off of the rock.

Yeah, you can’t blame the component for a human factors failure.

I’m glad Wayne already said this, I am just repeating so it doesn’t get missed.

You do NOT want a petcock with a reserve function. Fine for carb bikes where fuel starvation just makes the motor stumble and you turn on reserve before it stalls. Not OK for injected bikes. First of all, the fuel pump will burn itself up without fuel flowing through it. Secondly, even if the pump wasn’t designed that way, injectors either have enough pressure to work or they don’t. So the engine would just die without enough warning to switch to reserve.

Another option that nobody has mentioned is to switch to get a later model fuel tank with the pump inside. Bigger project, but doable.
Trying out the motorcycle life from the other side of the counter.
