LeMans III Pipes
« on: April 24, 2018, 06:57:15 AM »
Hey All,

My LeMans came with 3 sets of pipes, the set that was on it were hand made-looked and sounded great (loud) but bike ran a bit rough at lower rpm's.
Put on Lafranconis last weekend which cleaned up beautifully, not as loud as the hand made set but still sounds pretty damn good and runs much smoother.
Think I will stick with these for now. Third set were painted silver-not sure what they are. (maybe stockers?)
Are the Lafranconi's stock or aftermarket.

Thanks,
Mark

the lanfranconis are aftermarket but a fairly commonly used "performance" replacement

Lafranconi made the stock pipes as well as the aftermarket "Competiziones".  I think the stock pipes will be marked as  "Lafroncnoni",  "Moto Guzzi" and a model number - something like "S-18".  Competiziones have a larger rear exhaust hole and are fitted with red propeller/turbine sort of piece in that rear exhaust hole.

LaFranconi is an exhaust system manufacturer in Mandello Del Lario, a couple of blocks from the Guzzi factory.  Naturally they've made a lot of stock Guzzi exhaust systems (since 1928) and they also make accessory systems for Guzzis, as well as OEM exhausts for other manufacturers like BMW and MV Agusta.

Looks like they are the stockers after all. Marked S-28. Surprised how throaty they are for stockers though?
Either way, I'm going to run them for now....

Baffles may have been drilled or punched by a previous owner....not an unusual modification to find.  If you look into the muffler from the backside you can probably see the baffle about, by my best recollection, 6 to 8 inches in.

My 83 Le Mans came from Cycle Specialties of Athens Ga.. I believe the bike was set up originally by John Hoffman, judging by some of the notations in my service log! which goes back to 1983. I understand that John Hoffman had sold the franchise to another business about 15 years ago. Are they still at the same physical location, carrying the  Moto Guzzi, Ducati line?

Not that there’s anything wrong with that.😎

Not at all!! Very impressed with the sound, don't feel like the performance dropped at all from the hand made open pipes, runs better and the stockers are in mint shape.  All good!! :thumb:
Bike also has the big bore kit, hotter cams bigger coils. Goes pretty dam good!!
