I think I went there once as a teen. I think they produce honey there. Went with my older brother to his campground in Garner State park. We also went across to Mexico at Piedras Negras/Eagle Pass. I remember the Mexican locals wanted to cut my hair real bad, (probably to resell as a wig) and the border guards made me pour out my Oso Negro tequila.  Nothing about Uvalde itself was memorable....

Excellent area to visit Dusty...went thru there last year, riding the 3 Twisted sisters , hard to go wrong near that area...Garnier and Lost Maples parks nearby both offer camping as well.  Shoot a note if you plan to head that way, easy to meet up there.  There was a movie with Robert Duvall filmed there a few years ago called Utopia I think...

I was in the area back in early December, and used to live in NW San Antonio. However, I've never stopped in Uvalde for more than fuel...

A fellow who used to work for me is now a deputy round that area somewhere!

Just returned from riding that area, and had a blast.  Betty and I took the Norge and rode around for 5 days.  Uvalde is on the flat land just S. of the Hill Country.  The curvy roads and scenery and good food of the Hill Country are the draw for us.  If you are going out hwy 90 from San Antonio stop in Castroville at the Alsatian bakery and Dzuik's smoked meats for supplies.  A Butler Motorcycle Map of the Hill Country is a very worthwhile investment to put you onto the best roads.  Hope you get to go.

Good call on this for folks who haven't been out this way...you can even pick one up at the Post office in Luckenbach!

Bailey - sounds like you had a bitter experience out this way...surely you've had some fun riding 335/336/337 and 16 out of Kerrville and surrounding areas, right?  Not all sour vinegar...

November is doable, might be a bit past the turning of the leaves at Lost Maples park, but could be...there is great camping at Lost Maples, and great hiking too with some good elevation...plus a fun stop at the Lone Star Vintage Museum just down the road...what's not to like?

Fair enough on the town per se, however decent riding abounds in the area...perhaps a better place to stay is at Garner or Lost Maples as mentioned earlier.  :)

Dusty,

I think Lost Maples is one of the prettiest, and most unique parts of Texas.  Took the family there years ago, and stayed at a neat camp-cabin that provided breakfast.  Would love to make it back some day.

Uvalde has some interesting geology....and much more hilly and twisty than the coast.  I say go for it...

I got in real trouble for buzzing a girls house in a T Craft many years ago but I'm sure the Sherriff is long dead by now.
I have family in San Antonio and always like that part of the state.  Yipeee!

Yeah, I should have stopped after 3 but went one pass too far.

I may still be wanted in those parts, on second thought.
