Who's this McDermot MGNOC  Az. rep. fella?   I've been to the Cottonwood shindig this year and Datil rally the past few years and still don't recall meeting him.  Is he afraid to introduce hisself in public?     Hell, JJ, I thought you were the rep.  You seem to do the most effort.

AZ Wayne - here are a few photos of Jim McDermott - - and he says he knows YOU!!

He'll be at Datil!  Introduce yourself!  No, I am NOT the AZ MGNOC rep and yes, he is "The Grand Exhalted Poo-Bah" - - I am just the lowly PR person!! (LOL)

Well I guess I sat next to him @ Cottonwood but he hardly said a peep.   Not very outgoing.

Actually, Jimbo is a great guy...a true Guzzi / motorcycle enthusiast / rider...and once you get to know him, he will talk you ears off!  :thumb:   If you are there, we will have a male bonding session at Datil in August!

Plan on coming to this gathering! Will bring a V9 bobber and its distant cousin a Hypermotard 1100 hope to meet and make conections. Been looking for a itinerary

The food at the Datil Rally is excellent, and yes, there are a few other  cool places to dine at in Quemado, Reserve, Magdalena, and even at the Saloon at the Eagles Next Campground, including steak and New Mexico-style (read: Hatch green chiles - which are in season in August), Mexican food....No worries... :thumb:  :1:

If I am not mistaken, last year was a record, and over the course of the weekend, about 75 bikes coming and going.
It was a good turn-out...:1:  :thumb:

The Datil Rally is the only 1 I've ever been to that if you stick around @ lunch time you also get a free lunch catered.   If you're not there then, you lose.  Plus it's the only Rally I've ever been to that all you have to do for a chance to win a free running bike is be registered for the Rally !!    Where else can you get a deal like that?  Not only that, if your bike when you get there has an issue, the MGNOC rep. will try to repair it for you so you can ride it home!  Of course you have to pay for that, but still.  Where else can you get deals like that at any other Rally ??

I will be going to the Datil rally, for I live only 100 miles away. I have a question for those who have been there in the past about firewood... Do riders tend to want to sit around campfires into the evening? I would assume that firewood is scarce, and I was thinking that I could always make a quick run home for a truckload of wood, if that would be helpful. What are your thoughts?  I have a 1970 ambassador that I hopefully get on the road by then. It hasn't run since 1985, but supposedly the owner back then oiled up the cylinders, removed the battery, and then parked it to slowly rust in the Texas (Houston) climate. I think I shall replace the pistons/cylinders with a new set that I have, for I think that getting rid of the old chrome liners is the best thing to do to any old Guzzi. I will then 'restore' it as a rat rod, so to speak. That would be the perfect bike to take to Mexico, which is in the plans...     But, again, what about firewood?

I don't camp, but YES, firewood IS scarce...and all the campers at the Eagles Nest campground DO have fires every night, so if you bring wood...it will get consumed, believe me.

As far as your Ambo...since you are only going 100+ miles, one way...you should have no problems!  Get her on the road and "In The Wind" again!  :1:  :thumb:

There is a big fire pit at the campground and they (or Matt?) supply the wood.  There is a Nat For campground a little bit away if you want to avoid the main group.  Usually one motel room is set aside for the campers to take showers and such.  Or, one of the other motel people will offer their shower.  It is a great group of folks.

Yes, Jim is on the quiet side.  Maybe it is a requirement for the MGNOC SW reps cause Matt can be on the quiet side at times too  :)

Lee Davis you have good taste you bought a V9 bobber then came back and got the Stelvio, now I guess I will go with the stornello or V7 racer, since you stole the Stelvio, lol. So I will see you in NM. Bobber and a V7. I had been eyeballing the Stelvio for about a month

Haven't seen any info on a group ride, but I'd be more than happy to have company.  I would probably go up the SRC route to Show Low then over.  Hook up on the east side, say Goldfield Chevron, SE corner of US-60 and Goldfield Rd.

I believe there is a small Valley Guzzi contingency riding up Friday morning...and I will meet them in Show Low at the Circle K, probably between 9:30am-10:00am.  I am also staying two nights (Fri.-Sat.) at the luxurious LARGO Motel in Quemado. :1: :thumb: I'll be on my '98 Centauro GT this year...
