I really wanted to come this year, I had been there two years ago and had a great time.

However, there will be a total eclipse of the sun on Monday, Aug 21, and it will be about 68% of total in Datil.
It will be 100% about 200 miles north of my home so that is where I will be. Leaving Friday or Saturday to beat the traffic and get a decent camping space.

This is a "once in a lifetime event".
I'll see you in Datil in 2018.

and I will meet them in Show Low at the Circle K, probably between 9:30am-10:00am.

I assume by "Circle K" (there are 3 in town) you mean the big one at the intersection of US-60 and AZ-260.

Leaving Goldfield Chevron at 7:00AM would get one to Show Low around 9:30.

Sounds like a plan.

Yes, (SORRY!!) the big one at the intersection of US-60 and AZ-260.  Forgot there are three (3) Circle K's in town.     Last year, I met up with these two characters in Show Low!  They were also staying at the luxurious Largo Motel in Quemado!!     :thumb:

These are my photos, from 2011, just outside of Datil...near the "Plains of St. Augustine!"

Lovely area...and along the Continental Divide at over 7000 feet!  :1: :thumb:

For any Stelvio riders, there's some really nice big enduro friendly dirt roads in the hills to the west of Datil.

Yes, agreed.....and many graded fire roads just like this...perfect for a Stelvio...but NOT a Triumph Sprint GT sport bike...especially after it RAINS!! (Which it does often in the afternoons in mid-August!! (YIKES!!)

Could I drift the Norge??

After a hour rain, these roads were flooded and just insane to navigate on a sport touring bike...and I was in first gear....both feet dangling...going as slow as I could through the mud... and then...POOF!!....I "DRIFTED" right over the handlebars onto my big BUTT!!

I actually laughed out loud, but sustained about $2,300 damage (paint and plastic) on the ol' Triumph.    I had forgotten it RAINS every afternoon in the Datil area in mid-August.  Anyway, all part of the adventure... :1: :thumb:

Off chance I may get there - I'll know better in a week or so. Be nice to make it since I missed the Cottonwood confab this year.

Obviously you have no idea what it takes to put on a Rally.  I have put on Rallies and if it's not asking too much from you it's nice to know how many people I'm going to have to feed ahead of time.  When I go to a Rally I don't pre-pay but I do let the Rally master know I intend to make it there so they have a body count on how much food to have prepared.  I hope you don't think that's asking too much.

A midnight tweet from President Donald Trump has social media trying to find a meaning in the mysterious term “covfefe.” Trump tweeted just after midnight: “Despite the constant negative press covfefe.”

The tweet immediately became one of the president’s more popular posts. Trump poked fun at the typo, tweeting around 6 a.m., “Who can figure out the true meaning of ”covfefe“ ??? Enjoy!”

One Twitter user joked that “covfefe” is already a popular name for babies in states that voted for Trump. Dictionary publisher Merriam-Webster checked in, then quickly hid its head under the covers.

That's nice....

OK, looks like I will be there. I have made a reservation at the allegedly luxurious Largo Motel in Quemado solely on the recommendation of a certain traveling salesman, so his reputation is at stake. OK, what's left of his reputation.

I am not sure what time I'll get there on Friday; I may stop in Flagstaff to see friends for lunch, or I may just start early, play in the hills a bit on the way over and get to Datil earlier.

The 850T was the first Guzzi I fell in love with, back when it was new, so here's hoping! For that, I'd even put up with carbs...
