Brand X that is a nice XT250.  I have been looking for an NX250 but I like the look of your XT250.  Will it go fast enough for short trips on the highway?

The XT is a great street bike.. setup correctly Climbs most mountain passes at 60 MPH  300 mile range with my 1.1 gal extra roto-pax setup  81 mpg on the last mountain leg (150 miles) Wind does not blow this bike around like you would think.. Really smooth engine when broke-in  Mobil 10-40 T helped it too.. You can cruise all day at a true 55-60 MPH with zero problems  Simple air cooled engine with perfect fueling. Best shifting bike I ever had, rode, or rode on.. Lot nicer then my KLX-250s overall in many areas. Although my Kawi was a good motorcycle too..

Best part it's built in Japan!

Balanced Avon Trailrider 90/10 tires (rear is 110/80-18 to fit the rim correctly)
16 tooth front sprocket
Gel grips,
larger ft pegs,
DEQ delete,
MadDog seat protector
Slipstreamer S-06T Windshield,
rear rack

serious question.  I never see this anymore:

"Made in USA".

Is the term obsolete or such few things qualify that it's quite rare to see?  I understand the labels regarding % US content and assembly.

Why is that the "best part"?

Is it like the old Michael Keaton movie, "they're short, so their eyes are closer to the circuit boards"?

Hey..... I have chaps, had them for many years while riding my Eldo. And yes, they were made in the USA at a small western wear store in California.

Because the build quality is higher in general. Ever own any really quality Japan made tools like Nitto Kohki. ( Air Tools mostly) American stuff is so crude/rough,loud, and vibrates way more.. Kind of like Harley's.. :Beating_A_Dead_Hors e_by_liviu

Higher than what? Anything from any other country?

And, what other countries make THAT particular type of bike?

I'm sure you see where I'm going with this, but just in case, I hate assumptions and generalizations.

That would be good - but I thought you were talking about the techs at a motorcycle shop. I know of darn few of them getting more than $20/hr, and many get less.

Two of my nephews are techs for a local Ford dealer.   Both only make about $20/hour.
One is a diesel specialist, and only makes a little more for (like $23).

The NX250 is a good bit quicker than the XT250.
The NX250 makes about 24 HP, the XT250, about 16 HP.    Both weigh about the same.

If you like Yamaha, go for the WR250R.

Of course if they get good at the flat rate game then an 8 hour day can = a sixteen hour day, then $20/hour = $40/hour.

When they ask me why I bought my 2014 California over a Harley, I sometimes reply:  fly-by-wire, 3 mapping options, traction control, wider powerband, better brakes, better handling, and all weighing 50 pounds less.   Then I ask him why he bought the Harley?...

My 162  Real wheel hp of my RI was good deal quicker then my XT. Still does not make it more fun to ride,..(IMO) The simple air cooled engine is super sweet running.. Could of had a more complex faster WR, still would not be any better for me.. I wanted max range and low vibes. Reliability of a low stressed engine. The fi gets about 2 more hp, and all in the right spot for street riding..I had a brand new XR-650L,(fixed up a bit) and the Yamaha XT is a nicer bike to ride on the street or single track slow speed trails.

Many years ago, got one before Cannondale shifted the production to Taiwan.
High performance and last of its kind, I still like the CAAD 9.

It's all about greed really, isn't? :

Brand X   - it sounds like we are on the same page.   I am still going to look for an NX250 because I really like the look of them but an XT250 looks like it will a good alternative.  Either one seems like a lot of fun!

There has been a lot of Harley bashing on this thread, most of it in good fun, but I still think it is a little bit unfair to bash Harleys because of a few misguided riders.  I have never owned a 'real' Harley and probably never will but I did buy a new Buell XB9 in 2004.  Because of the Harley reputation I purchased the 7 year warranty.  When the warranty was over I sold it without ever making a single claim. I have also spent a fair time riding with Harley guys lately because they make regular trips to Pennsylvania. So far I haven't seen one break down so they seem fairly reliable to me.

How do you explain that Lincoln SUV production is in Mexico and Honda CRV production is in Greensburg Indiana. Who's the greedier guy here?

If you go looking for furniture, it's hard to find anything that is well made... but the few items you find that are very well made are probably made in the US.  After a lot of shopping, and not without a budget, I just ordered some furniture made in Oregon.

If you're buying in Europe, I think the Italians make the best furniture but it's not supplied at reasonable price to the US market.

Of course if they get good at the flat rate game then an 8 hour day can = a sixteen hour day, then $20/hour = $40/hour.

The problem is that the flat rate scheduled hours are on the low side.   You have to be fast just to get the job done within the allotted time.   And god-forbid anything goes wrong that makes it take longer, like having to extract a broken bolt that was frozen in place.

Sorry man, no way. I employed WAY too many mechanics over the years to believe that generalization.

Flat rate varies. Yes, sometimes it's not all gravy, but there are a ton of times it is. And with most higher end shops charging $100-120/hour there's room to pay their techs.
