gas cap jackal
« on: March 07, 2024, 07:13:29 AM »
Hey guys, on to the next issue that has reared its head.

The gas cap on my jackal refuses to open all of sudden. To the point I almost broke my key off last night. (have to order key blanks now)

I took the flange out and was able to see that when I turn the key to closed position the lock armature seats into a little dimple in the flange. For some reason it has become impossible to rotate the armature with the key out of that position.

Any idea on how to fux this issue? Is there a gad cap replacement that doesn’t have this issue?

I just ordered this from Harpers.

Says it will fit so hopefully this solves the issue. Ordered a key blank too.

If you can get the cross pin out of center it'll come apart. That is under on cap.  Plastic swells up from ethanol.
There is also an all metal cap w/lock available that works.
Lots of threads about this if you search.

Yup, I feel like every Jackal (and Stone, Cali, EV whatever) in that year range had that problem eventually.

Mine swelled and I had to disassemble the stupid lock mechanism and remove some material to get it to work again. Wound up doing it multiple times to get it right. I seem to remember that I might have taken off too much and risked is not working for that reason at one point. I dunno, it was a while ago.

Yes, I'd just eliminate the lock mechanism if that's an easy option.
