My weekend just freed up. I called for a cabin last week and just missed the last one. I called another camp ground with cabins but they have a fly-in that weekend and all filled. Suppose I can tent it but I 'd rather have a cabin. Put my name in on a cancel list. so still hoping!

I hear that they may be closing and working on route 60 between Suches and Dahlonega.
I don't have details yet.

There is road work on Hwy 60 from the Stone Pile north to the Union County line.I spoke with a couple of DOT guys today and they will not be working on the weekend.If your approaching from the south the logical detour would be taking Hwy 19 north out of Dahlonega to the dead end and then left on Hwy 129 north over Blood Mountain,then left on Hwy 180 to Suches.

Also, is GA 60 the tar-snake skating rink it was years ago? Almost unrideable for me...

The work is from the Stone Pile where 60 breaks off 19 and goes north to Woody Gap where the Appalachian trail crosses the road.The tar snakes are pretty flat now and when the road is cooler you can hardly tell they are there.They were bad when they were first put down and had a high crown then got hot.It gave new meaning to the term "pucker factor".

Hey, I planned on riding my V7 from Pensacola and spending 5 days camping/riding around Robbinsville, Murphy, Maggie Valley, and Brevard next week. Might have to get permission from my significant other to hang at Suches a few days extra before heading home!!! It will most likely cost me??

If you like adventure you could go Cooper Gap Rd, it comes out right at the lake in Suches, gravel . You turn right at the Army post.
I don't like Blood Mtn.

Going from P'cola to Deals Gap first, have to wait for a later date to try Cooper Gap rd. Got the tentative OKay for the extra weekend at Suches!!

The road you are showing there is the one that is closed. And yes, it is the one that is badly tar snaked.

Is there any cell phone coverage at the Camp site?? Just in case is there a community phone I can use a phone card on?

Looks like I'll be able to crash this happy gathering. I'll call tomorrow to see what my options are. Camping is no big deal...probably a benefit because I'm told that I snore.

This is 12th year I think. Usually in mid Sept, this year later. Pretty low key, Lodge has GREAT food. Wayne had a ride on Sat but not much else planned. Well, usually whisky tasting and cigar smoking. Mike has a ride mapped out this year for Sat .
