What Honda tank?  I’ll concede a similarity to the Triumph Hurricane tank, but Honda?

No they didn’t make it bigger, nor do they need to.  The bike isn’t aimed at the huge mile munching crowd, though as someone who has road v9 for thousands of miles a crack, it will happily do so. The tank as it is, is good for a hair under 200 miles, maybe even two hundred, I didn’t want to run out so I can’t say exactly. But 48 to 55 mpg gets one right up there with a 4 gallon tank.

But I’ll give you, if you’re crossing the American south west and don’t want to pay attention to when you last bought gas, a v7 would be a better fit,  But even then, 7 gallons will leave you stranded if you don’t pay attention.

I could never really get past the tank on the V9's so I do like that. Ive not ever ridden one, but did sit on one. At 6'3" tall and 250 lbs, it felt like a good size. Not as big as my cali stone, but bigger then the V7. Wonder if the tank will move over the the other V9 models, if they have any.

Is it really? Im guessing the colors, and angle of the pictures look like its a different tank. Not the first time my eyes have played tricks on me. Thought it was strange to change it at such a late date in the models life span.

Same powertrain,  but guzzi specs the V9 as hitting peak torque at 5000 rpm fwiw. Lower than the V7 @ 6800 rpm.

 I test rode a Bobber a couple of years ago and I really liked it. I especially liked the Bobber Sport with the Ohlins suspension. But then I got back on my 02 Cali Special Sport to go home and I realized just how similar they are. I'ld love to have a new bike but I'll just keep my big block.

The V9 joins the list of Guzzi's that don't make sense to me, like the Griso, and I owned a Tenni green Griso. I fail to see the market for the V9 even if I like it. The market for the V9 seems to be this: those that will pay a premium for a beautiful, old-looking, slow and light motorcycle with shaft drive, but don't want the better looking V7. Best case scenario the V9 eats into V7 sales.  Worst case scenario the V7 eats into V9 sales.

Fun fact: in 2021 Honda sold about 100x more new motorcycles in North America than Moto Guzzi did.

    I personally don't consider the V9s or V7s old looking, or slow. They are classically styled bikes with excellent build quality. Not like these modern insectoid looking bikes from some of their competitors. Ya, they're not the fastest bike in the neighborhood but they are deceptively quick. They aren't track bikes but you'll never be left behind on regular street  riding. Long distance interstate travel isn't their forte. Best to stick to state highways and B roads.

Long distance interstates are perfectly fine on a v9.    I agree, they aren't purpose built to eat interstate in the way a Goldwing or similar is.    However, they are purposely built to do just about everything well enough (I assume the v7 850s are too).   I have traveled hundreds of miles a crack, on the slab, on my v9, and it was perfectly happy, and so was I.    One caveat, I did upgrade the suspension, which made it a much better bike, in my opinion.

There are plenty of folks on this board who own and really like their MGx and Nevada's.       I mean, if we were sitting around a camp fire, with a group and there were a couple Nevada riders there, would you still say that out loud?

2. "premium" - ? - Really, I bought 3 of my 4 at a pretty steep discount, but even then if I compared the MSRP to other brands they were always competitive.

3. The subjective "old-looking" or "slow" is just that, subjective and relative and well, again since similar to competition mostly irrelevant. The look and feel and other characteristics are what attract those who buy.

4. The Honda comment is just completely irrelevant. I don't think even Piaggio has any intention of Guzzi being a Honda. Who gives a crap what Honda sells? It's once a decade that they build ANYTHING that even remotely interests me and they've never seen a dime of my money on a new bike. Vive la difference

And seriously if I wasn't at max occupancy on the garage I'd have bought a V9 by now. It IS different from the V7 in ergos and it WAS different in engine feel (that might be changed I haven't ridden the EU5 version of the 9 yet, but the earlier version was BETTER than the V7 for me).

Just a bit of prospective:  several years ado when the V9 came out it was ion direct response from the English importers who convinced Guzzi to make that bike and motor combo-this is according to both BIKE and MSL (Motorcycle Sport and Leisure) British publications.

Kev:  That is a great perspective and explains the Guzzi lover very well.  You can get a 20 year old big 4 600 4 cylinder with 100hp or more for a few thousand dollars.  That bike would certainly out perform any guzzi on the spec sheet.  But, as you said, we are here for something that you don't see coming at you in the other lane very often.  I find it is always fun on that rare occasion to pull into a place where there is another Guzzi.  We always find each other pretty fast.  As to reliability, my 2015 and this 2020 have been very reliable, better than some other better known brands I have owned.  Yes "viva la difference."

I fell for the same thing, I really thought it was not the same tank.
Although strikingly similar, I thought it was a bit different around the front and slightly more bulbous. I’ll defer to your  greater knowledge though Chad, since you actually have spent more time with a V9 than me.
Also you are totally correct, the paint does not change the molecular construction off the steel, but I think the respondents were referring more to the apparent shape.

Wishing I would have bought a V9 sport when I had the chance.  Didn't have the cash at the time and was not willing to part with anything.

Agree 100%. I bought a V9 because I think the V7 looks bland. The V9 also seems to have a different power curve having ridden both back to back before purchasing a couple years back. You can put miles on the V9. Hell, as ADVRider shows, you can put miles on anything. I've done multiple day trips and my plan is to do two in 2023, especially now that I have HB bags.

People don't cross shop Honda when buying a Moto Guzzi. I didn't.

I also don't get the suspension comments; I've taken mine through some twisties and so long as you keep the momentum up, it does quite well.
