A new chapter in our life
« on: December 01, 2021, 09:05:55 PM »
Greetings all!

After Laurie and I retired we decided to leave California after 40 plus years. Many different reasons.

Put the house up for sale and moved into an AirB&B in Grand Junction CO while looking for our forever home.

Today we closed on that home! We are now living in Fruita CO. Friendly people, retiree tax friendly and views of the Coloado Natl
Monument and Bookcliffs everywhere. Plus new roads to ride!!

The pace of life is so different here and people actually greet you and wave. Very different!

We are excited for this next journey together!!

Ride safe and often.....

Congratulations Jeff and Laurie. That took guts, hard work and planning. Hope you love the new surroundings. It sounds great from the uptight Northeast.

Good for you making the leap. A long time Guzzi friend was going to move to New Mexico when he retired as they were almost prisoners in the home they had in OaK Cliff, TX. Well, he retired and the wife didn't want to move "just yet". Then after 10 years she got sick and he had medical problems and they never did move to NM. SAD!

Thanks twowings for the heads up. Will do that.

Side note...the person we dealt with for moving our stuff from the local storage area to our Fruita home asked me what Guzzi I rode..he was actually familiar with the brand! We have plans on getting together for some rides.

Ride safe and often,

CONGRATS!

I THOUGHT I was retiring next year, but unless things change significantly will put off till Jan 2025. Hoping to stay in VA at this point, and will be in Rockbridge Baths area.  Colorado is Beautiful. Was stationed there in 2007. My daughter now lives in Denver and loves it.

If I were to move back to Colorado I would be looking at the West Slope. Otherwise not a chance.

That is why we chose the Grand Junction / Fruita area. This area gets 11 inches of snow a year... not 11 feet like the east side!

Plus the pace of life is SO different here. Much less stress.

Karen and I loved the roads in Northern California and then loved the weather in Southern California.  However, in 2018 at ages 75 and 81, we could no longer remain in California.  We bought a Texas home with frontage on Lake Buchanan (70 miles NW of Austin) and after going on 4 years we are happy with the move.  Perfection of any locale is difficult to achieve, but the benefits inherent in rural, fly-over country are many and we are at peace here.  We had some part-year experience living in the San Antonio area from 2007-2009 and that made the transition less formidable.

Older people especially need to exercise "due diligence" in planning any major geographic move, as the old "frying pan into the fire" adage holds true.

Laurie asked about driving a stake near you just to make sure you had moved that day .

I enjoy a morning coffee while looking at the view of the Colorado Natl monument from our study with our grandaughter..after that we do what she deems must be done!

No complaints..usually she takes me out to a great late lunch! Life is good!

Sure beats getting up at 1 or 2am!! Don't miss those days at ALL!!!!

Congrats! It is such a wonderful area: so many great roads and sites in western CO and eastern Utah. We might move to the Montrose area after my wife retires this summer. Make sure to check out rt. 141 near your home, and rt. 128 not far from you in Utah.
