V85 TT (600 mile service)

Hello fellow V85er's

Now that my matter has been corrected, Im at the half way mark to 600 miles and curious for those that have had the 1st service at/about 600 miles, was everything in spec ow were there many issues, I know the valves are checked but I cant imagine too much then again I never thought my bike would die on day 2....

Mine had no issues- continues to run as expected at ~5000 miles.
(and I thought it was 900 mile service, not 600)

You are correct. Manual calls for first service at 1500Km / 900Mi. I intend to change the transmission and gearbox oil at the same time despite it not being called for until later.

At 950 miles, the left intake valve was tight and right exhaust valve was tight, so they were both adjusted to spec. I changed the oil and transmission fluid. The transmission fluid was very thin and I measured 650ml (removed) IIRC.

When buying new, I have tried to get the dealer to throw in the first service and they did so this time.  At 900 miles he reported that there was nothing to report.  I did the 6,000 mile service - no surprises.  I am getting ready to do the 12,000 mile this month.  I don't expect any surprises. It's so Honda-like it scares me a little.

No issues, and Jim Hamlin changed all the fluids at the first (and subsequent) service.  Here he is servicing my bike AT the Ohio rally a couple years ago.  Brought everything with him to do it.  Now that’s customer service!

I would without a doubt want to check the valves again when you do that service. Just to make sure there isnt a major change that would tell me that they were not just out of adjustment when new.

I did it myself, it was valve adjustment and engine oil and filter at the 900 mark.  Pretty simple.  Left intake valve a bit loose nothing else.  I did manage to fracture one of the spark plug caps while pulling it off, I recommend a tool made for that purpose (he says after the fact LOL)

The manual I got with my bike, a 2020 says first transmission and rear drive service is not until 18,000 miles.

This is the lowest maintenance Guzzi yet, I believe!  Nice.

Is it switching from day colours to night and you are right on the threshold ?
It will do that automatically if you have it in your settings, mine does.

It's been recommended by my highly knowledgeable dealer to also do the first trans and gearbox oil with the first service as much to make sure there's the correct amount of oil in there as it being dirty.

Interesting, but I will stick with the advice of the company that built it and provides the warranty.  I do think that each service recommends checking fluid levels, however.  Certainly no harm in over-maintaining, other than the waste of money and oil.

There's no way to check the trans and gearbox other than to drain it and see what comes out. I know it's not called for at the initial service but I'll feel better knowing the the right amount of oil is in there.

There are no dipsticks or view glasses, true.  I remove the vent plug and use an allen key to check.  That has worked pretty well for me over the years.

Couldn't agree more. Cheap and easy preventative maintenance. I intend to change all 3 oils as part of my end of year maintenance regardless of miles. Don't like my bikes sitting with contaminated stuff in it over the winter months.

There's nothing in the manual about lubing drive shaft splines or swing arm bushings yet many Guzzis left the factory dry or with insufficient grease. This is Moto Guzzi after all and many of us have learned the hard way not to assume the factory did everything correctly. Hopefully the quality control has improved but I don't want to bet my engine/transmission/gearbox on it, nor do I trust Piaggio to make it right through a warranty claim.

Guess I'm just one of those 'ounce of prevention, pound of cure' types...
