Factory Sport Screen on an Eldo 1400
« on: April 22, 2019, 09:24:56 PM »
I'm told by AF1 that the Moto Guzzi Sport Screen Kit for Cali 1400 Cust (2S000028) won't fit the Eldo 1400.  Same tach housing, same headlight, same headlight bracket, I think.  And, I know I saw a pic with the screen on an Eldo.  The upper headlight bracket has the 2 screws on the inside on both sides to mount the bracket so does anyone know why this won't fit?  And if it won't fit initialy, is it a simple mod?  Thanks

That does not make sense to me since I bought the same touring windshield for my Eldo that fits the other Cali variants. In fact, they didn't even list a windshield for the Eldo when I bought mine.

That being said, there are 4 different windshields, (maybe more), that use two different mounts. There is a short set of mounts for the short and medium shield. Then there is a second medium shield made to fit the tall mount that goes with the touring shield.

As far as I know, (and I could be wrong), all the factory mounts attach to the triple trees rather than utilizing a headlight bolt. Even so, the only difference in the triples are the fork tube holes are drilled at a slight angle to change the rake a bit. Like 1 or 2 degrees.

Just for the sake of knowing, I would also be interested in the why. Are they looking at a parts and accessories book or have they actually tried it?

John, you are correct that those 2 brackets you described do in fact fit the Eldo 1400.  The screen I’m asking about is the sport screen for the custom.  It mounts on a different spot then the others, on the inside of the headlight bracket.  Put in the model number above on the AF1 website and there is a PDF of the install. My headlight bracket has those inside screw holes and screws so I’m not sure why they say it won’t fit.

I’m not sure why they say it won’t fit.

Because they haven't tried it, and the fitment is not listed.

I've seen the sport screen on the Eldos, so it must fit.

I went and looked at both the picture as well as the PDF instructions.

I'm with Mike, I don't see why not other than someone has not tried it. It seems to be priced reasonable. Ask if they would take it back if it does not work.

I looked up the part numbers for the upper headlight supports on the Custom that the bracket attaches to and it's the same part number as the Eldo, so is the headlight.  I don't see anything sees that would interfere.  I may order this up, I like this look when I don't have the large windshield on.

Steve Last time we talked ( 2 or 3 yrs Grand Marais ) you were considering getting rid of the Norge, I assume you did that, but did you keep your EV when you added the 1400? How do you like the weight of the 1400? I’ve been thinking that might be a good tug for our Vetter Taraplane side car.

My 1400 gets a blistering 35 MPG, just imagine what they will turn out tugging a side car along:(

Dan, is 35 the best you have gotten? I average the low to mid 40's on mine. 37 is the worst I have gotten on crummy gas. 47.5 is the best on ethanol free premium. Usually 42 or 43.

OK, I received the Sport Screen and it installed perfectly on the Eldo with no modifications at all.  Looks great too!!  Perfect for when I don't have the touring windshield on.  It covers that open area between the headlight and speedo that I personally feel has an unfinished look to it.  I informed AF1 that they should take off the note that says it won't fit the Eldo, and that they should include it in the Eldo accessories section.

The dash readout is wrong.  If you calculate it I think you find it’s getting better than that.  I’ve gotten as low as 30mpg hammering on it but if I just cruise around I get 38-40mpg
