Real sugar. No artificial sweeteners, I read an article many years ago saying coke tried but the Mexican market refused to buy the product.

There are many different coke formulas and tastes depending on which country it’s sold to. If you’re ever at the world of coke in Atlanta be sure to sample all the different “coca-colas” there are.

The Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta is really good. Or it used to be.
Back in the day when I used to fly an old C47 hauling Mexican freight ( I was known as Juan-Ted in those days) I would enjoy a little refreshing Mexican coke.

Mexican Coke is what Coke used to be before NEW COKE where they replaced cane sugar with corn syrup back in the ‘80s. For whatever reason they wanted to make it closer to Pepsi which was sweeter at the time. It was a flop because Coke drinkers preferred the dryer taste. A few years later Coke modified new Coke with some cane sugar but it was never the same.

Do you have references for your claims? Just asking because my wife worked for Coke in the 80s, and she said they pulled New Coke and stayed with the previous formula.
-
My roomate in Atlanta also worked for Coke and he brought home samples of the "New Coke". We both thought it awful and a bad idea. Coke didn't listen to him. Later New Coke was dropped and replaced with Classic Coke.

No references, just remembering history. Kent says the same thing. I think if you check the ingrediants today it will say cane sugar and corn syrup. I have some Mexican Coke here now that I offer to guests. I drink soft drinks but only occaisionally these days.

I remember back in the 80s that there was a movement of people who believed their heart flutters were coming from caffeine and cane sugar. I even knew some people who would carry powdered fructose because it didn't give them the symptoms.
It looks like the food industry switched to high fructose corn syrup to reduce costs and increase profits and sold it as a healthier alternative.
When my wife left Coke and the free supply of sodas, I pretty much stopped consumption.

At the price the stores charge for the stuff, it has to be illegal.

I had a coke the other day and the label says it is the original formula. Except for the high fructose corn syrup.
-
We found Mexican Sprite to be much better than the USA’s several years ago.
Bottles and cane sugar we were told.

I thought the original formula had coca leave extract in it.

It appears the Mexican Coca Cola we are getting here is unique to our market , the stuff sold in Mexico is the same corn syrup based junk sold here . Weird huh ?
Then again , remember the chain that advertised 11 secret herbs and spices in their chicken , turns out it was mostly salt and a couple different types of pepper , with a serious dose of MSG . Mmm , MSG

Most of the "Mexican" places here Cokes list sugar cane instead of corn syrup. Seems better.

Full on attack on Coca Cola
My local deli carries the cane sugar Coke. To me it's less syrupy, crisper and better tasting. Then there's the fact that while cane sugar is still a major calorie hit, it's more readily metabolized than HFCS.
