An 8v Norge Named Exxon-Valdez
« on: August 09, 2021, 05:00:56 PM »

The short version.  Wait.

Issuing “short versions” is not my specialty, as, even tho a retired word merchant, I prefer TLDR to PowerPoint bullets.

That said, I’ll try — tho I'll make up for it in the pix.

A local friend's very-low-mileage (as in 3500!) 8v 2014 Norge leaked — make that gushed — oil.

The whole story is pretty much here:

https://bill-and-kathi.smugmug.com/Mikes-8v-Norge-Exxon-Valdez/n-6gDHbq/

If you care, hover cursor over pix for captions.

I spent today down there cleaning the mess this project in the Moto Grappa, but there are far worse ways to spend a day ... assuming beer is available!  :boozing:)

Question:

In the "Spotted during final pre-flight" photo, what is it that we are supposed to see?  Bent muffler clamp bolt?  Spring anchor with no spring?

Tighten the oil lines going into the heads. Also, the crankcase breather tubes were cooked and broken on my 14. Flex tape held until I could get new.
Edit: I went back to see your pics

Those breather hoses are crap. My Stelvio hose cracked at the top connection under the tank. Puked oil all over the engine and covered my left peg and boot. The better way to do it is to buy real 7/16 oil hose. If you run the left top hose to the right cylinder and the right top hose to the left cylinder you can avoid the tight bend and use real good oil hose. forget the stock stuff.

I don't see any ducks being cleaned with Dishwashing soap...can't have been that bad an oil leak!

Nice to see something as simple as a hose being the culprit...easy fix.

The intern looks like he's slacking on the job...give him a broom or something to do around the shop!  Just kidding!

"Poor dog?"

You are kidding, right?

Not mine.  Martin's English Lab 5-monther.  Out in country.  Roads are trafficky.  Treated like a princess here. But a puppy that we'd all like to see grow to maturity thus tied when not under Martin's immediate voice control.

Yes, re hoses.  We'll see how our Car Quest "almost right" do.

Yes, re Lab, but not mine.  A sweetie.

Yes, Travis is pretty useless.  We gave him that job to keep him from scapels, etc.

Seriously, he and Martin are skilled moto-techs.  I wouldn't have the tank off yet were it not for them.

Yes, to spring.  I had not noticed bent bolt.  Kind of hard to have spring there with clamp as it is.

Headed back now to figure out which Guzzi that gets nod for Erie run on Sunday.  We leave for N.C. tomorrow; back Friday.  Want to have the moto-harem beauty picked and packed today.

When I saw that two-tone red FXLR in your garage, I damm near choked.  For a second I thought it was my old one. 1990?  Had one just like it for many, many years.  Rode it as my only bike for years, but the last 10 years I owned it, it mostly sat. I'd truck it to Daytona bike week, put 150 miles on it, and then it would set in the garage the rest of the year.  I finally sold it to a guy clear out in San Bernardino, CA.  Took forever to get rid of it.  Nobody in the south has any idea what a evo FXR is.

That was the Norge owner's FXLR (another Mike).  He bought it new.

BTW, I should have included a pic of my No-Mar in that slideshow.
