Shiny object syndrome - there's a Centenario to be had, or heaven forbid, a Panamerica!
The V85TT is a good entry-level ADV-tourer (for a porker). Some riders are going to ‘try out’ this one more quickly than say a KTM, Aprilia, 1200 GS, Pan American, or Africa Twin. Those things are investments, whereas you’re not losing too much when buying the goofy Guzzi transverse v-twin. People buy vehicles all the time and experience buyer’s remorse at some point, whether immediately or eventually. At least with the V85TT, they’re not breaking the bank too terribly as they would like one of the others I mentioned. If it’s not adventurous enough, they move onto one that it is. If not enough of a tourer, they move on to one that is. Like a mid-weight standard, it tries to do a little bit of everything, but won’t do any of it exceptionally. Besides, a lot of people THINK they want to be adventurous, buy into the marketing, and share pics of them out on some fire road, but once that exploration bug wears off, I imagine a dedicated road tourer looks more appealing.
In the last year or so a lot of people have hit hard times. Maybe they're selling the bikes to pay the bills.
I personally doubt the majority of the people who hit hard times over the last 18 months were in the market for a $13,000 plus motorcycle.
I only have 1200 miles and no problem, except I’m ’ shorter now. But slip to one or other side of seat I grows a in. Which helps. When I get my hard bags & shorter seat is going make me taller again. Of course with the hard bags the bike will not fall as far. it’s just a matter of time before I drop the v85. I drop it when off loading for the first time, they or made ride not push.Rudy
Never rule out financial stupidity when it comes to people. $13,000 motorcycles $70,000 truck., $50,000 camper, $18,000 boat etc. The lots/dealers are empty and its not only those who are financially stable who bought. Lots of folks over bought out of boredom over the last 18 months. Buy now pay later or not at all has become the American way for far too many.
Or maybe it's folks listening to crappy magazine reviews and marketing that postulates .09 more inches of travel and 2.8 more hp make the NEW bike the absolute BOMB, and last years bike, which was the bomb is now revealed to be the cow it really was all along. Do people RIDE these things? Any competent rider can keep up on public roads. I've been with accomplished riders in a group of 15 (yes, 15!) on bikes from a 300 to a SupedDuke. All through WV and New England. Except for a long straight everybody arrives together. You better believe 15 riding together at pace better know exactly what they are doing. It's not the bike.Look at the crap about the H-D PanAm. MAYBE one in a hundred GS riders will run away from the PanAm. Equal riders? It'll be neck and neck.Ever see a 600RR get smoked by a R75/5? It's the rider.
Maybe the V85TT is a “jack of all trades, master of none” bike. And in this age where riders own several bikes, all for a specific type of riding, having a bike in their fleet that’s just OK, isn’t OK.
Totally agree. It's not great at any one thing but being very good at everything that I need in a bike makes it so. If I had the means and space for multiple bikes I'd probably wouldn't own one but since that's not the case, it's about as good a bike as I could own. It also helps that this is my 5th Guzzi so the whole owner experience (bike quirks & dealer situation) isn't new. I think that along with press hype could be two major reasons for first time Guzzi buyers to bail out.
Hoping that Ewan McGregor hasn't fallen on hard times In any case he liked his so much he only put 107 miles on it. On ebay now for a mere $18,900. Now's your chance...
