Dicks is one of my all time favorite destinations.  Requires riding hwy 1 south to Fort Bragg, then on to Mendocino.   A beer with the locals there is always a good time.

Great bike, sweet roads, beer. Hard to beat that combo :thumb:

I have to try to one up Chuck. Outside of Moriarty, NM in a glider. Notice the altimeter on the upper right and the the gauge below that is kind of hard to make out is variometer showing I am still climbing.

Jeez I love that greenie…It has that “sorted” look that makes you just want to get on and go.
I cannot understand why I don’t have one.

Thanks, it is pretty well sorted but I can't take credit for how well it runs. The first owner did the pod filter swap and for whatever reason let the bike sit for a good number of years. The second owner (coworker of the first) bought the bike and did quite a bit of work recovering the bike from sitting neglect.  But he's a busy fellow and had 3 V11s so he let the Greenie go this past July, when I picked it up.

I haven't done much but change all the fluids, some electrical and corrosion cleanup, and riding.  You're right, just makes you want to hop on and go. I'm retired and the wife enjoys getting me out of the house so that works out.  I was very pleasantly surprised how comfortable it is in stock form, done many 400 mi days with no complaints. Well, the seat needs a layer of new foam, that will get done this winter.

Add one to your stable if you get the chance, it's a hoot.

My Norge is the 1151 cc 2 VPC thing, so the motor will be pretty similar and I just cannot see past it, but those V11 gadgets are menacingly attractive.
Did they do them with carburettors or are they too “ modern…” ?

Mine is fuel injected.

I think you need to go back a generation to this bike for carbs, but I'm greener than my bike when it comes to Guzzi knowledge.

This is for sale nearby, I hope someone buys it before I decide I need it.

Probably not...

Today, at the end of a weekend trip visiting daughter at college, I picked up a 1969 Ducati Mark 3 frame & swingarm in Maryville, TN for a 350 Desmo that I'm building from leftovers of my 68 350 Mark3D resto.  I-40 is closed so we came home to SC via US 129 the dragon & beyond... in the minivan with my wife and 82 yr old mother.  We're deep in eldercare, so she basically goes wherever we go.   Grammy loved it.

The store & resort was closed for the season, but she bought some dragon earrings & a t-shirt.  Now she wants this pic of her with the dragon statue on her christmas card instead of the one from the beach that we took last month.

For all the time i spent riding up there in the 90's, I never imagined taking my mother or that she would have such a great time.  It was quite a ride, even if it did involve 4 wheels instead of 2...

Here’s a contribution from Scotland.  The first is from 1984 near An Teallach in the NW highlands on one of my first trips there. It’s followed by a recent one of the same bike near Balquhidder.   The last two were taken last week and show my newly acquired Breva 1100.

I hadn't seen this dragon before either, Chuck.  Now it's there with a well-worn souvenir shop (with a couple of much-appreciated portajohns) directly across the road from the "real" Deals Gap store.  If you look closely at pic, you'll see the sign & store in background behind dragon.  Guess this dates both of us a little..

"Better" can have many meanings.... These below clearly aren't spectacular, but for me they are special because they capture a great day. Some here may have followed my torturous front fork rebuild project that consumed the better part of this year's riding season. And then the rains came and the bike was trapped at the bottom of a steep grassy slope that is the entrance to the garage where I had parked the bike. Then the weather improved and the sound of bikers enjoying brilliant fall weather was everywhere. But that glorious weather coincided with olive harvesting time. No time for riding as it's a race to get your olives harvested and delivered to the frontoios (pressing mils) who are usually open only in November (in our area). So, agonizingly, the bike sat. Waiting. But we had our best year to date, just over 1500 kgs of olives harvested and a personal best single delivery of 440 kgs . That good harvesting weather also dried out the grassy slope enough for me to liberate the T3 from the garage, go for a short but oh so sweet ride, and then put the bike in a garage we now have access to that is accessed by a paved road. Some shots of the end of that very good day (and one  of a good delivery day).

After supper ride up on Knox ridge. A favorite spot to take in the sunset and the evening smells of the dairy farms.
Remarkably, this shot is unedited. The colors were unusual and quite spectacular that day.

An oldie but a goodie.
Well ok, how about The Most Beautiful Road in America?
That would be 12, starting West of Zion N.P., and continuing to I70.
As Zion is a serious tourist trap.. if you look carefully on the back of some of the buildings, you will see the pelts..  we camped to the West at a high desert state park campground
1-20160712_065740 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
Watched the sun go down over the mountains and the stars come out.
The next morning, headed toward Zion,  there is a lighted flashing sign on 12 saying, “Motorcyclists use extreme caution. Sharp curves next 100 miles.” Alrighty, now.
Entering Zion..

You can’t take pictures of this stuff.. just sayin.
After miles of twistys, we came to Bryce canyon N.P. a totally different experience. There were tourists, of course, but also miles of nothing. These rock formations are called Hoodoos.
1-20160712_115143 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
1-20160712_120459 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
We could have stayed and hiked the trails, there are many, but vacation was coming to an end.
Continued on the really lovely 12. Native American granary up there.
1-20160712_135952 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
Then 12 climbs over the fold caused by tectonic plates colliding. Dorcia said the van was saying “I think I can, I think I can..” the hardest climb of the entire 7000+ mile trip.
