Yes! Stole away for a few miles on the GRiSO.
Inner loop of Georgia with a few Florida miles thrown in.
Brisk 39° when I left Fri morn. from north of "Hot"lanta
After 2 hrs of Interstates, plunged south towards Waycross and as the day was getting late I passed a 1928 Train Swing Bridge (with Operators shed on top) over the Okmulgee river.
End of first day.
Sat. morn made run to east entrance of the Okefenokee Swamp (largest blackwater Swamp in North America) and a scheduled 90min boat tour. Such a beautiful area! ..and kept an eye out for gators..
By this time, with the sun shining and with things warming up, I headed to the beautiful Waterfront area of St Marys to visit the Submarine museum I wanted to go through. Very informative.
End of 2nd day.
Got up REALLY early Sun. morn as previous motel guest left alarm clock armed
Rode into Florida to catch the ferry for the short hop across the StJohns River.
Headed east across top of FL. and turned north in Monticello taking 19 to Albany, Ga for the night.
End of 3rd day.
4th and last day of trip would be a walk down memory lane as I had not visited the next two locations in 35 years back when my father and I had made the trip.
Andersonville National Historic Site had loomed large with me as this was "hallowed ground".
Will not go in to details here other than to say it was the site of a military prison built to hold Union prisoners during the Civil War, with tragic results..
Ok. Final trip destination, other than the last blast to home, was the "Little White House", a retreat of the 32nd president of the United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR). As he had contracted polio, the few things that seemed to ease his pain were immersion in warm water, and this was found in a natural spring (of 88° water). He had a pine house build here and the Roosevelt Warm Springs Institute for Rehabilitation was born..
The final hours of backroads to home were uneventful except for dicing with the cagers in the dark.
Oh well, home safe now. 930 miles riding the best motorcycle brand on the planet.
And that is in no way subjective
