Hi All,
I have purchased a 2004 V11 Sport engine out of a Coppa Italia. I plan to install it in my 2002 California Stone.
Looking at the engine, I noticed it has a rather nice looking kickstand attached to it, and that the engine mounts differently than the California engine. The V11 Sport models have bolt on front downtubes. I think that it may be advantageous to modify my California frame to accept the V11 Sport mounting, by cutting off the down tubes and fabricating a bolt on version similar to that used on the V11 Sport models. The main advantage being for ease of maintenance. With a removable front tube assembly pulling the engine would be easy, just remove the front tube assembly, all the hoses and wires, and unbolt the transmission from the engine. The swing are rear wheel, and transmission can remain in place. The motorcycle without the engine could then be rolled around since the wheels remain in place. I would also fab new shortened bottom rails. I am thinking about making the new parts out of stainless steel which I will polish to near chrome appearance. It would definitely be a lot of work, machining and welding, but it might be fun and, if I can get it all right, be really cool looking as well.
Has anyone done this type of modification before?
Any thoughts on possible disadvantages?
Thanks
