Yes...nice to see these 850-T's in mostly "stock" and unmolested condition....

We'll see what this one brings in 6 days....

I know someone with a brown one and he might sell it for the right price. It's really a nice bike.

It's nice to see one reasonably unmolested, but on BaT it'll probably bring stupid money. This one could use a little "love" to be a reliable runner - no oil filter and chrome cylinders could spell trouble if not addressed.

If it's a late 75 model it will have a filter.

It's been pointed out that the dash is probably not original to an 850T (at least not one that I've ever seen) so it might call in to question whether or not the gauges are correct. The cylinders appear as though they're original so most likely chrome bores. If it is an early 850T it will not have an oil filter and will probably have a 13amp alternator instead of the 20amp bosch unit that was commonly used through years. Knowing the build date or the VIN number might give a serious buyer a better idea of those potential concerns.
This has been posted for sale in my region for a while now at what I considered to be a rather high price.
Overall. it appears to me to be a very close example of an original relatively unmolested 850T.  Both the good and the bad.

And I'm not claiming to be an expert!

SDCR, those numbers and date code put it squarely in the grey area. My sept build 850T was an early no filter, minimal electrics model. I have since upgraded the charging system even though the original was working properly. By the Dec builds both upgrades were in place. Assume early unless you have a way of verifying otherwise would be my recommendation.

The 850T is a good machine with several well noted areas that could be improved upon (and mostly were with the 850T3).

Good Luck!

I love the classic look of the T but think that the T3 brakes look better and I have to assume function better. Marginally better is the G5 with iron liners and a displacement bump, although with a face only Groover can love.  I built my G5 to look like a T3.  It irks me that it isn’t original, but you work with what you have.

Given the frugality of the MG crowd and the relative lack of knowledge about them it may be a while before standard big bore Guzzis get real money.  I hope this auction proves me wrong. They are such great bikes.

Is the black headlight stock? I think mine had the fat chrome ring reportedly unobtainium now.

The one on my 850T is chrome as well as is the one on Jim B's. I believe that is stock, but painted or powder coated.

This was on Facebook market for something like $12,000. If it sells for that I am using his write up and putting my T up for sale.

@ $2,275 now...(No RESERVE)...and with 4 days still to go...

...I predict $12K won't be happening for this auction.

Anyone know if the mufflers are Conti’s ?

Also, on this start video, looks like the right side cylinder may be running lean?

Guessing the mufflers to be Dunstall or  Dunstall replicas because of the 'Gatling Gun' outlets visible in Pic# 21.

@Scout63,

As you are fairly familiar with these 850 T’s, would you be kind enough to share your assessment and sentiments, regarding the auction bike?

Thanks

Hey John. I’m not an expert on T’s at all. I rebuilt my G5 as a T3 cause I love the look, but don’t know the earlier models.  Web searching old Guzzi ads is the way to go.  Or ask Charlie. He knows all.

Any T3 folks know if this is a Linked brake model.

Also, would this have the duel point distributor?

Rear drum, single front disc = 850T which neans not linked.

If it's, stock an 850T had a dual point distributor, with a slightly different advance than the later models.

I see a receipt for an oil filter in the pictures, so it could be that this is a later model 850T.

T3 has linked brakes. T does not, as it has a drum rear brake, rather than a disc. It does have dual point distributor.

John, not *trying* to sound like a smart a$$ know it all - you know it comes naturally to me -  but that Hi Flo Filter does not fit the 850T; it's for modern Black Mit Whites.

This is getting confusing. This is listed as a T-3, but has a rear drum.
Are you saying that it is not a T-3, but actually  a T ?

The url says "850-T-3" but the text of the auction says 850-T. It is definitely an 850-T, not T3.

Well............... ...I should put my reading glasses on now that I turned 70.  I didn't see the "Bavarian Monkey Whacker" nomenclature on the invoice.

And again, the dash is not from any 850T I've seen but it sure looks like it (the dash) is from a T3. The numbers match up with what I would expect to see if I were looking at a T.
