1000S Horn location?
« on: April 02, 2018, 02:14:15 PM »
I'm looking for a way to mount the horns on my v7 sport build, and the horns on the 1000S seem to fit in between the cylinders real nice. Does anyone have a detail picture or discription of how the horns are mounted?

These are dual, red, German (loud) "HELLA" horns, (from GRIOT's GARAGE), that I installed on both my '83 850 LM-III and my current '98 Centauro GT.  Original bracket, and you should be able to do the same on your 1000S.  Hope this helps... :thumb:

Bracket #17756840 in the 93 parts book. Nothing special of a bracket, one can easily be fabricated.

Actually, those brackets *are* kinda special.. which I learned much to my chagrin several years ago.

They are several thin strips of spring steel to keep from breaking from vibration.

Yep, they almost look like a stack of feeler gauges all of the same gauge. I can take a pic of the ones on my G5 later and post it, but not sure if the 1000S ones are the same.

It looks like two pieces of galvanized steel about 3/4" wide by 3-4"? long with rounded edges.

Found a good enough pic on my computer. Barely shows it, but you can see them/it. I opted to stagger each leaf because I couldn't decide which horn to give the front row and I believe in horn equality :azn:, Not sure if that is the right way to mount it however.

Seems that bracket(s) are not sold separately? I didn't see a separate part number for them in either the 1000s manual or G5 manual. Mine came with the horns I bought:

So simple that it's overlooked.  I was looking at Blackcat's pix and thought "Y'ep, those are the mounts."  Never tried to replace them as I have a bunch from the bikes that I have and consider them the mounts to use.   :thumb:  Now I know why.  :embarrassed:
