A local mechanic, a Ducati guy, says that just to get my blood pressure.  Of course, I razz him because he works on as many Harleys as Ducs.  He builds a bunch of those silly BRAT bikes too.

Yeah, I probably started it.   :boxing:

"MG" to me means "Morris Garage" the British car. Are you too lazy to type out Guzzi? I mean, I don't see anyone using "MM" for Moto Morini.

IIRC they were marketed in the US to new riders.  Part of the AMF corp.  idea to sell smaller "HD" bikes.  They made some good bikes.  The purchase for the motorcycle division was easier and faster for AMF than building a factory, designing bikes and making them.  HD also had motorhomes made as a subsidiary also Tomahawk Fiberglass products.

Can't believe what you started, Tom. Just wanted to say hi and that I personally don't like your choice of smileys...but that ad was a kicker, esp given the name of the ad company.

But I can only think it is dead winter or nighttime for most replying: I'm sitting here on a Sunday with beautiful weather because my new Griso is away getting rollerized.

I've used MG in a bunch of posts, as a newbie, but I will no longer. Now I remember, my buddy's old MG needed to be worked on three weekends per month so he could drive it the fourth.

So never call your bike an MG, you'll put a curse on it.

I think they're some Hondas mixed in under the Moto Guzzi title.  (Content for Charlie)        I use to work on MG's in Mesa.  I had Midgets, B and B GTs.

Just realized as a newbie, my comments might be construed to be chiding you guys and defending Tom. I was just trying to jump in too in fun. Eh, he don't need no defending, I'm guessing!

Truth is, I didnt like using MG either but Im so damn gabby I try to shortcut where I can.

About calling your bike an MG and the curse: theres a joke in the dog world (my wifes gig) to be careful what you name your dog, it tends to become what its called. Ie, never use Killer, or Butcher, or Snapper, etc.

My buddy was 6' 6" and had a MG midget. Watching him get in that thing was a sight.

I don't mind the Harley comparison, but I ride a loop. After all, Guzzi was trying to displace Harley in the 70s and definitely took many design cues in an attempt to sway the police forces. But after De Tomaso bought Guzzi and they killed the Eldorado, that ended. Having said that I would never call my Ambo that term.  It's wrong.
